I got mine today, it was brand new and AppleCare was automatically registered when it was still being shipped.
A tip if anyone is transferring over an old Mac, because I struggled with this today for a while: get a thunderbolt 3 cable, connect the new and old Mac. Set your old Mac to target disk mode and then turn on Migration Assistant on your new Mac and do "transfer from a Mac". If you run Migration Assistant on the old mac, it'll transfer over wifi and take a full day. Transferring over thunderbolt took me an hour.

Overall this is a really great deal, and if I didn't bite on the B&H deal (14"/2TB/32 core GPU, $300 more, otherwise same) I would be very much considering this.
