This card draws up to 170W, it requires 1 8-pin power connector. PNY product page [pny.com]
Believe in today's market the vanilla GTX 1650 on the nVidia side and RX 6400 on the AMD side have bus powered cards that are limited to 75W.
No difference, you can borderline put 150W+ into a laptop so single fan is enough. The gigabyte will run quieter and cooler tho.

The PNY 3060 Ti was $275 at BB a couple weeks ago. That's a good price, this one is honestly, pretty horrible. You can get a 7600 at this price which is a better card, and get a copy of Starfield for free. Also you can get better cooler designs like the one you quoted.

For most 1080p gamers 8GB VRAM is just fine. Out of the few latest AAA titles (aka horribly optimized) running at max texture/details, 8GB is still serviceable. Or from another perspective, the raw power of 3060 isn't going to future proof you so don't really worry about the extra VRAM. The real shame is the 12GB 4070 and 4070 Ti with axed bandwidth.

I think the most powerful card that doesnt require a 6 or 8pin connector that you can use is a 1050ti. If you're doing light gaming, then the 1050ti is more than enough.

most powerful one under 75W should be RTX A4000 ADA but almost $1000
used RTX A2000 at $200 would be much reasonable

Such a noob question but how is this card so small with only one fan and this other similar Gigabyte 3060 is huge with 3 fans?

Compare their dimensions.

This card is shorter but "taller". The 1 fan is bigger. It is for some cases that cannot take longer card.

3 fans give slightly better thermal performance but is noisier.

I'm just going to put this into the universe and hope for the best. I find the graphics card market to be utterly detestable. It's impossible to find a card that's both worth buying, and on sale, and available, and isn't going to be outdated or not supported. Games apparently don't support one or the other, at least from features that the cards advertise like DLSS and FSR (features I'm only beginning to learn and understand about). Starfield is like an AMD baby, but BG3 gives all the love to NVidia. NVidia cards seem woefully outclassed when it comes to actual VRAM, but how much weight does that carry?

In short, if you're not fully involved in the scene, it seems impossible to get a good deal or even full understanding of the offers, even when viewing Toms Hardware.

With all that in mind - I have a 980ti. It's old AF. I would like a new card and am looking to spend approx. 500 for it. I think I prefer NVidia to keep consistent with my machine, but am not opposed to AMD. What would you, dear reader, recommend? Wish me luck!

There are designed for SFF PC's. If you are not building one then you probably should be looking elsewhere for a better deal.

Nevermind, good info here: https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-rt...x-3060-ti/

What are you looking for the card to do? You going to be playing at 1080p? 1440p? 4K? Modern games or older titles? Do you care much about ray tracing? Are you fine with 60FPS or are you looking for games to run at a higher frame rate? What CPU are you pairing with it? I can make a better recommendation with this info.

I feel your pain. I left the desktop market and am running a Legion 5 Pro laptop R7 5800H / 3070 140w. I've considered getting back in to the desktop world because newer games are requiring more horsepower. But with Remnant 2 leaning almost exclusively on DLSS / XeSS / FSR to achieve playable framerates, I fear we're entering in to a new era of games that destroy rasterization performance in favor of wholly relying on AI upscaling. That being said, at this point I'd prefer the AMD 6700/6800 cards for price/performance over the 4xxx series nVidia. The green team has played a weak hand this generation. However, they are moving away from the GA102/104/106 dies they've used for 3 or so generations in the 5xxx series, so maybe that will afford us some better options. If you're not an AMD fan, I'd say you're better off going with a 3060 Ti / 3070 / 3070 Ti or a 3080 if you can find one cheap. Aside from that, you might just be stuck picking the game you plan on playing the most and get the card that caters to that game's engine. It's a sucky time for GPU buyers, no doubt.

Modern titles (I would like to play both BG3 and Starfield). I want my games to look good and most importantly play well and consistently. Fancy shit that's going to break that consistency doesn't matter to me. I'm pairing it with a Intel Boxed Core I5-6600K :/ I have an 850w PSU. 4K isn't the end all be all for me. Maybe that'll help, feel free to tell me my CPU needs upgrading as well lol

I have an ASUS 3060 card with one fan and it does fine on cooling. The bigger card with more fans may have a larger cooler where the fans are less likely to run at max because they are able to run slower and quieter while dispating heat from the larger cooler. My card has 1 fan and a small cooler so when it's underload I feel the fans go to max speed/noise quicker than something with more surface area, but I don't feel the performance is affected.
