Very pricey for a 1TB that doesn't offer much vs the 980 Pro. Picked up the 2TB 980 Pro yesterday for $75 plus tax.

1.5x random read/write IOPS. That's a lot to offer.

Figures just bought this for $5 more although did utilize an Amex 10% off. Will Amazon ever price adjust?

Very unlikely. Policy expressly states they do not.

It was $99 and then a $25 off $100 new customer coupon. Microcenter in store. $85 with the coupon today, which is still a great deal.

Yah, only gained me write speeds which who cares over my WD SN850 non X. Killer deal on the 980.

The 990 Pro is certainly faster, but in world testing the difference isn't nearly as significant as Samsung advertises. For me, I can't justify double the price. That is not to say for someone else it isn't worth the premium though.

Is it really that much in store? I'm seeing it for $139.99 online

Yeah it really isn't, especially when compared to something like the SN850X which was close to this price recently after cash back.

1TB is a poor value. Competitive 2TB drives go on sale for just $10-15 more.

Where is the 980 for 79.99 or better? I'm in California if that matters

The 990 Pro's performance is a class above most other consumer PCI-E 4.0 SSDs, so the price is largely justified - with one exception being Solidigm P44 Pro. In terms of specs and various benchmarks, it comes very close to the 990 Pro, at 3/4 the price (for 1TB).

If you're on a strict budget, yeah, getting way more storage for the same price with the 980 pro is the way to go. If you want a future-proof purchase the extra money is going to be well spent since this drive will keep up with many generations of systems to come.
