People need to look at replacement filter availability and cost NOT the cost of the unit. These are just fans and HEPA filters. They are essentially nearly all the same. There are fancy ionization technologies, yeah sure that's all fine and well, but the HEPA filter is doing 95% of the filtration if not more.

If you want/need continual air filtration, pick a model with easy to obtain, relatively inexpensive replacement filters as they'll need to be changed every 3-6 months to remain effective.

Something else to keep in mind, the U.S. DOE set the first ever national energy efficiency standards for consumer air cleaners a few weeks ago. Compliance is required by the end of 2023. There will likely be sales of a lot of units that are inefficient since by next year, it won't be legal to sell them.

If you run these things pretty rarely, not likely a big deal for you, but if you're someone who runs an air purifier 24/7 in the summer to help with allergies or some other high usage use case, it's something to keep in mind.

Consumer air cleaners are eligible for the Energy Star label, so always helpful to look for that logo if electricity usage/bills are a concern.

I bought 3 of the Air320's for $80/each from the Woot.com deal a few weeks ago. They are louder than Winix 535 at their max setting but look much better costmetically with about the same coverage. I had a bunch of extra Winix charcoal prefilters and they fit pretty well in the Air320 as I wasn't not sure how well the built-in cloth prefilter would work. Based upon the square footage for the Air220, I'd probably go with a Winix instead -- especially if they were to go on sale at Costco for $100-$120 as you'd get an additional year of filters.

Do you have any guidance on what is considered relatively inexpensive or brands/models you think meet that?

There are several that are well reviewed with plenty of high rated generic replacement filters. The first that come to mind are Winix and Honeywell, but I believe Holmes also has good availability, as does Germ Guardian. You need to find a model that looks right for you and then check filter availability and cost. If you expect a high workload, assume replacement in 2-3 months to determine annual cost.

* HEPA filters are removing the dust, mold, mildew, bacteria, and allergens from the air but NOT odors. Odors are primarily organic molecules that are removed by activated carbon filters. If you want particulate AND odor removal, it needs a multi stage filtration system, involving both TRUE HEPA and a carbon filter. HEPA "TYPE" purifiers and filters are not HEPA, and will not yield the same performance. Be VERY WARY of HEPA "TYPE".

I am looking very carefully at them, and Levoit comes up as a good name, with reviews and comparisons, and has generic and fairly cheap filters too.

Levoit is another that does seem to have fairly good reviews and fairly reasonably priced filters.

I believe that, but is Bissell being more honest about this (all air purifiers don't achieve HEPA-level filtration at the highest speeds) or do other manufacturers design it more effectively?
Something like this will be HEPA (actually better than HEPA) at any speed:

(For those who have the means and want a no compromise solution)

Price is $99.98 but new customers can use NEWQVC50 to get $50 off $100+ by adding a filler item. There is also free shipping that ends today I believe.

See thread here

Code NEWQVC30 takes $30 off anything over $60. (This should have been stated)

NEWQVC50 is $50 off $100.

Where is it showing BOGO? Or is it already factored in the half off price?

After buying multiple air purifiers over the years from cheap to few hundred dollars, I've settled with cheap box fans and some 20x20 air filters. I can get multiple box fans and some high merv filters for each for around the price of this. Yeah they aren't pretty but for the price of filters I don't mind.

Its literally right on the page, under the image. I already received mine [ordered 4 got 8], so yes its BOGO.
