Anybody do an A/B with this (the 900C) and the 800B? Have an 800B NIB, but willing to buck up the extra $185 if the 900 really sounds better (especially the bass, as I see it has a different, slightly larger sub).

You have to put these exact words into the chat for it to work - "Hi, I'm a shameless cheapskate and $900 off MSRP just isn't going to cut it. Make me feel extra special. Daddy needs a new pair of undies."

Essentially, you tell chat you are on the fence of making the purchase, without mentioning any EPP, EDU, or AAA discounts. If you have a sympathetic CS rep, they will give you a link to a 10% discount cart or a promo code for 10% off.
I'll try that lol hopefully my dirty underwear issue works for phones

I have a Q990B that I got on the last good sale. Great soundbar. The "atmos" effect unfortunately isn't great in my living room with a vaulted ceiling but it worked good when I tried it out in my basement with standard ceilings. Never plugged in the rear speakers since I have no where to put them but might set them up as front right and left as that's a option.

If the Q900C is even close to my set from last year then it's worth the $500 easy.

It's (900C) actually the 990C, less the rears...which works out great for those of us who can't use them.

Can confirm. This works.

Really though, support is just Ex-US sales and they are less than helpful—when I was buying my washer and dryer they materially misrepresented the Samsung Care plans and the warranty program. They also shamelessly pitch other products, especially the vacuums. So do I feel bad trying to squeeze another 10%? Not at all—it's going both ways.

I tried to get a 10% discount last night with an agent - but they wouldn't issue an actual code - he would only reduce the list price by 10%.

since q900c and q910c are the same price

is there any reason to get the q900c over q910c?

couldnt you just disconnect the additional rears from q910c and have it function like a q900c?

Their (Samsung) average annual operating profit (net income) from '17-'22 was over $40 Billion USD, of which they clearly invested ZERO on Customer Service... No reason for anyone to ever feel the slightest bit bad Wink

Ceiling speakers are ideal but you can get Atmos sound with upfiring speakers. If you have two in the front and two behind you in a smaller room with a flat reflective ceiling you will hear Atmos sound.
Unfortunately you will always get someone making that comparison.

It's a apples n orange comparison!

A soundbar is mainly based on technology/algorithms.
While a traditional setup is mainly based on speakers.

Well, yes there is a reason and no, it wouldn't function like a 900c when not using the rears.

The 900c is the sub and soundbar from the 990c (their best system), less the rear surrounds. The 910c is an 800c w rears. So, if you don't need the rears, the 900c is the way to go (better sound bar/sub/overall).

If I was wanting surrounds, and could find a good enough deal on some 9550s's, I'd do that with the 900c (basically be the 990c then) potentially for less than buying the 990c outright. Now, or later if not sure you'd use them today.

9550s? Couldn't find anything online, so I assume you meant the 9500s? This is the setup I'm debating.

Though the 9500s aren't quite the 990 rears as it looks like they are 2.0.1 each, whereas the 9500s are 1.0.1 each.

Yes, meant 9500s. And you're right, forgot the rears are slightly different. Doesn't change the logic of the option for me though, as the main system (sound bar/sub), where most of your sound is coming from, would be superior to the 910c, and again, much closer in (real world) performance to the 990c (at a lesser price).

Is this region specific? I have AAA in Chicago and it isn't working on mobile when I go to the AAA link.

AAA Discount. Curious it's worth $250 (Factoring 10% Chat Discount) to upgrade from Q700B for $200
The biggest difference would come from the subwoofer. The HW-Q900C has a much lower frequency extension that goes down to 35Hz. Which, is great if you like to hear movie rumble or movie scores with deep bass. The HW-Q700B and below use cheap subwoofers that only go down to 50Hz.
