I was thinking about getting one of the cheap Monoprice guitars to start trying to learn. Could this be used as a practice amp, or is this more of a novelty than anything?

It'll amplify a guitar. It definitely could be used as a practice amp for a beginner. What you'll find if you stick with it is that you'll want something better not too long after, though

That's another $25 that could go toward about $200, on sale, super Monoprice 15W all tube amp with a 12" GUITAR speaker and the whole slick combo at 25 lb. Portable And works for everything/volume.
