Worth the $3.50 for the Jedi Knight Collection.

I'm playing through Jedi Outcast right now. The Jedi Knight games have outdated level design from what we're used to these days, so you may find yourself consulting Youtube guides or old school text walkthroughs to figure out some of the levels. What I mean is that to progress a level, you sometimes need to find a hidden grate or figure out a puzzle that's not exactly obvious at times. Today's games hold your hand every step of the way by comparison.

Graphically there are a bunch of mods (check Google) for these games that go a long way to modernizing the graphics. From AI upscaled textures to reshade settings, these games end up looking pretty good for being 20 or more years old.

THere is also an updated engine to play dark forces with more modern graphics and controllers. It's a lot of fun. https://theforceengine.github.io/

Should be virtually zero work to get them working. Steam games pretty much always just work out of the box. It sounds like with Shadows of the Empire, there might be some graphical glitches though, cutscenes not rendering full screen.

But there are fixes if you WANT to do the work.

It's a $1, so I'd say go for it. That's less than adding guac to your burrito or getting a coffee at Starbucks.

I wish my Steam games just worked out of the box. But I end up fighting several older ones that will trigger the game to hang if you do anything out of the ordinary (like accidentally hit the Windows key).

Seriously I just bought ALL the Star Wars games (excluding the Lego ones they had for around $27 with the two bundles. I bought the Classics Collection first for $6.39 and then used the 5% off coupon on the rest for $20.98. I have A LOT of Star Wars gaming to look forward to!

dark forces is gonna be fun to play even today, it was basically a better designed Doom but with excellent art and sound, star wars authenticity is very good!

That's a good link to share. I'll note that the folks who did the recent Quake II remaster just announced that they're doing a Dark Forces remaster, and the developer of TFE helped them with it. I imagine that remaster will be on Game Pass like Quake II is.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s. It was normal to be stuck on a game for months until one night the solution would randomly come to you or you would randomly look in a magazine and the answer would be there. The internet ruined that for games.

Shadows of the empire... wow. One of my first 3dfx games besides Quake 2. I bet it has aged like old gym socks.

What I don't see on here is Jedi Academy... that was hella fun in the 2003 era Lan Parties. Google it, kids.

There is a X-wing total conversion mod out there, not sure if it ever really got completed. Google it. I tried it a few years ago and it looked better but the gameplay was still too old school to get me back into the 90s

Don't buy these games. Seriously aside from Rebellion there are far superior titles in each genre of gameplay, and far better if you expand beyond the SW narrative. Jedi Academy was amazing in its heyday, but compared to Bioshock? Or even the newer Force Unleashed is a more polished experience. Or single player Battlefront.
Same for Starfighter. Buy Squadrons or even Rebel Stike on GameCube.
These were inspirational for people who grew up with them and then made superior games.
I have serious nostalgia for these titles and returning to them always breeds disappointment. Maybe in a remake.
