Looks like this is the low end of the new qled lineup for TCL. Q6 has no local dimming, similar to Samsung Q60 series. You have to step up to the Q7 which is $699 for a 65-in to get local dimming. Even the Q7 series gets only a 7.2 for sports on rtings.com. This Q6 is a 60hz panel for anyone interested.

I can't find a review by rtings on this Q6 model, they may not have reviewed it yet. Here is the link I found https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...q650g-qled

Q7 was reviewed but costs more and maybe worth it for some.

The Q6 is worse than the s555 I got earlier this year for a similar price. Q6 has no local dimming as was mentioned before.

The Q8 is really the successor to the 6 series.
QM8 > 6 series > Q70 > 5 series > Q60

The Rtings Q6 review is available to paid members for early access since last Wed. 8/23. It should be available to the public by the end of this week or early next week. https://www.rtings.com/review-pipeline

Thanks for the response. I had no idea that they offered a paid service now.

TCL botched this year's TVs. This one is terrible, doesn't have any local dimming. The Q7 is also worse than the 6 series as well.

The Q8 is really the successor to the 6 series.

Quote :
Last year's TCL 5-Series—which was released for exactly the same price as the Q6—is a good example of how even a relatively rudimentary implementation of full-array local dimming can elevate a mid-range TV's picture. The 5-Series may not offer granular contrast control across several hundred LED zones (which is standard for high-end LED TVs), but its 35 zones do have a significant positive impact on its ability to keep the dark portions of the picture dark and the bright areas bright.

The Q6 does an OK job of producing a relatively high-contrast picture with a pleasant expression, but dark scenes in particular tend to look kind of grayish-blue, since most of the display is getting dosed with light even when there are very few bright objects in the frame. This limitation—combined with the Q6's habit of over-brightening coming out of absolute black—creates a picture with a somewhat milky haze.

During scenes where most of the screen is black (sequences in space or opening credits, for example), the screen takes on a lumpy, bluish texture, rather than the appropriately smooth, glossy-black appearance it's intended to have.

While it's important to keep our performance expectations in check when evaluating affordable, value-forward TVs such as the Q6, it's not lost on me that the 5-Series, which is for all intents and purposes a spiritual precursor to the Q6, did feature local dimming.

No local dimming zones, seems like a huge let down, especially on a QLED.

I figured that the higher model number would be of better quality. Makes no sense if the TCL Q7 is indeed worser compared to the Q6 model!

How would these be for a covered screened in back porch. I have an old 45" Vizio 1080p out there now but want something better to watch my Seminoles.

How does this compare to 5 series from last year. I am trying to get a 65" about $500 and that's what people recommend.

But 5 series is discontinued
