DOCSIS 3.1 is about to be replaced by DOCSIS 4.0. I wouldn't buy this unless you really need a modem now.

I fee like it's gonna take a few years for DOCSIS 4.0 to be widely used and few more for 3.1 to become depricated.

Comcast is literally rolling out DOCSIS 4.0 in my area in a few weeks. They are estimating 50 million homes will have DOCSIS 4.0 by 2025

docsis4.0 is the future but if 3.0 can do 300-500MBps down then most people will still continue to use it. Not many people get 1gig cable lines and if they do then 3.1 is just fine.
remember, it's the cost of internet that will hold people at docsis3.0 for a long time.

300down is enough for 90% of families anyways which is the average down speed customers choose.

It's not gonna support the Xfinity next gen network either, you may want to see if your area is a part of the upgrade. I just switched back to the Xfinity gear from a cm1000 and they waived the data cap fee and it tripled my upload

Is there a reason to buy a modem instead using the ISP provided one? I have no idea

To avoid a monthly rental fee or to use your own router if the supplied is a modem/router combo

4.0 is years away. Comcast doesn't even have mid split rolled out everywhere. Is there even a single 4.0 consumer modem validated and on the market? Also, where are you seeing 4.0 rolling out?

Can you just put the modem router combo into bridge mode?
