It looks like they cut prices on the Model X and Model X Plaid. The base Model X now sells for $79,990 while the Plaid now sells for $89,990. All color options are included too. It also seems as if it might now qualify for a tax credit.

Edit: Model S prices were slashed too.

Model S base model $74,990
Model S Plaid $89,990

Again. It's not one company. It's a slew of them.
Again- it's really not.

Tesla keeps posting record sales quarter after quarter, while nearly all of legacy auto keeps declining.

Global market share from 2020 to present has declined for all of:

Stellantis 0.93x (7.8 from 8.4)
Mercedes 0.9x (2.7 from 3)
Renault 0.89x (3.2 from 3.6)
VW 0.87x (11.9 from 13.7)
Ford 0.84x (4.6 from 5.5)
GM 0.80x (6 from 7.5)
Nissan 0.80x (4.1 from 5.1)
Honda 0.77x (5.1 from 6.6)

It has been basically flat to small increase for:
Suzuki 1.54x (4.3 from 2.8)
Kia 1.18x (4 from 3.4)
Hyundai 1.06x (5.4 from 5.1)
Toyota 1.03x (10.7 from 10.4)

And has only significantly increased for:

BYD 5.57x (3.9 from 0.7)
Tesla 3.25x (2.6 from 0.8)

Many- but still not all- of those legacy companies ARE making EVs now-- but very few of them that nobody is buying and of the ones they DO buy those companies lose money on each one while Tesla makes money on theirs.

The "competition is coming!" narrative has been a drum beat against Tesla for over a decade now and most new EVs from legacy barely (or still fail to) meet the specs of what tesla was selling in 2012--- and actual sales figures here in 2023 reflect that fact.

Keep drinking the koolid that says a mfg defect never killed a driver or passenger due to no fault in driving or use of a vehicle or not being properly educated about dangers of specific models and years

I doubt that anyone who can afford a car priced over $80K will be eligble for the $7500 tax credit. Wait till next year for the price to drop furthur when the credit is gone.
Married and filing jointly has $300k limit to be eligible, they can buy this car. Also many folks are stretching beyond what they can and buying luxury cars which is why we see more repos these days

Im about to order a G80 BMW M3 manual base spec for ~$82k. After the price drop, Ive been tempted to get a Plaid instead...but as a car nut, Id much rather have a car that provides me way more feedback, fun, engagement, etc than just straight speed. The consumables and maintenance are going to cost me way more in the long run, but meh...you only live once and it's going to be my last ICE.
yeah dont get me wrong manuals are fun as hell, i had a model 3 lr with the turbo upgrade and its like jumping off a cliff in terms of speed and it throws your stomachs for loops. i prefer low hp with manual for driving in the mountains and stuff.

Problem with most GOOD 6 speed small sports cars is theyre nightmares in terms of maintenance. never again with crappy german engines that need constant service

You laugh but he is correct. The model S Plaid is one of the fastest production cars made so far. Can you name another sedan under $100K that do 0-60 in 2 seconds?
Closest ICE car I can even think is 2023 Porsche Taycan Turbo S
2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo S
Price: $187,400
0- 60: 2.6 seconds

Edit: Taycan appears to be electric also.

I have Model 3 Performance and can tell you for sure the instant power is hard to beat. Its a huge achievement of automotive engineering for sure.

The statement is not correct. And you are wrong for saying it is. The person/bot did not say one of the fastest. Like another said already, you need a lot of qualifiers to make that statement even somewhat true.

My take on electric cars is they're like most electronics. The cost to produce them goes down, but the performance improves every year. The car you buy now with a 250 mile range and 8year battery warranty will depreciate significantly because in 3-5 years the range will go up and I get a new 8 year warranty. As cars get to the 8year warranty, who will buy it as the range will reduce each year and the battery can't be replaced economically.

Another comment, why would anyone buy a Tesla? Aren't we in deflation right now? If I wait, the price will drop. Inventory increases so they drop prices further?

They're pricing these like playstations. If you want it first, pay a premium. As it gets more common/older or a new version is due out, the original one gets reduced in price?

Upon release, the plaid WAS the fastest production car ever made 0-60mph

Here is my situation. I bought the y performance in or around 3/2022. Paid 70k as i got the white interior and blue exterior, both were upcharges. I only have 3k miles on it now, and was considering either the X or S now that they have dropped towards my budget which was near 70k. The issue is if i want to get rid of the Y now, its about 9k underwater due to all of the model y price drops. The good news is when i bought the Y in 2022, rates were low. Im at 1.9% apr 60 months

So would u guys:

1) stay put in model Y and hope that the low mileage eventually recoups some of the negative equity. I will be averaging 5k annual miles at most. I enjoy the model Y and its perfectly nice and enjoyable. Just prefer the X/S.

2) wait for a further price drop on model x/s once fed tax credits expire.

3) go for the model x/s now and roll the negative equity into a new loan.

Appreciate feedback

3k miles in a year and a half? That's crazy, it's almost not being driven at all. I put 3k miles on my Model 3 in 1.5 months.

Either keep it and drive it or sell it and get something cheaper, as it doesn't seem like you drive much at all.

Be aware that a significant percentage of the 2015 model s cars that are now out of warranty are needing battery replacement which costs $20k. Tesla isn't offering any battery fixes even though the battery is modular so faulty cells can technically be replaced at a lower cost. third party expertise on batteries is few and far between so repair options are severely limited. Resale value of these cars with a faulty battery, even if they are still usable, has dropped to $5-$6K.

Sucks that a ~$120k expenditure in 2015 is down to practically nothing. Even if you are willing to spend $20K to fix, the replacement battery only carries a 4-year warranty, not 8. And given how Tesla remotely pushed these errors on 2015 owners, it is highly likely that the $20K replacement will only last 4 years.

Lookup up "Tesla error code U029" for more information.

Im not avoiding driving it, its just alot of my work has become remote. Im pretty content staying in the tesla eco system and have the home charger set up. I guess i could consider the 3 but i dont really like the smaller size

Great deal for sure, sucks for those that purchased around $120k a year ago though, oof!

If you want to purchase a new or used Tesla, don't forget to use someone's referral code to get another $1000 off and free 3 months of Full self driving.
