Assuming you were talking about amazfit bip. Then it has a battery life of 45 days vs this apple watch only 18 hours. To me, less than a day is not useable.

Sure!

Basically for 10+ years the only way to set up an Apple Watch was to tether it to your phone. Same number, same account, etc (even if you had cellular service on the watch, which is $30+ activation and $10/mo on the major networks; cheaper on the discounters, usually $5/mo)

Then around 2021 Apple introduced "family setup" for watches, which allows you to use your own phone to set up and manage a watch for a standalone user (typically cellular). This was aimed at older adults or children.

However, only a handful of carriers — the usual suspects — support family setup, so you're limited on who you use for that new phone number. We just chose Truphone because they were the only Apple-approved carrier that didn't leave us tied to a major service and charged zero setup fee, just the $10/mo unlimited service.

Eventually we might switch over but it's only been a couple weeks' trial run and we love it. Not perfect, but the cellular watch alone is very capable of basic functions — voice texting, Find My location (sometimes very slow), workout tracking (but can't archive it without a phone).

Not perfect, but he can't easily lose something strapped to his wrist and $130 is a much easier replacement than $500+. And he can't browse websites or get too distracted by it. We also imported selected contacts from our phones. No incoming or outgoing calls or texts are allowed from random people.

It sounds complicated because it's hard to find people in that exact situation and there's probably not much profit in it . HTH

Thanks! Finally fed up with Amazfit watches that are cheaper but just don't work well and pulled the trigger on this. I don't need the cellular version but the non-Nike GPS versions (also $129) have sold out. Used up a $5 Walmart gc from an old promo and rest on Chase Freedom card that had 10% cb Chase offer at Walmart.com

This + Training Today app = 8/10 of a Whoop (or more) for a fraction of the price. I've really enjoyed my setup.

I turn everything off on mine (screen, notifications, etc) and leave it on airplane mode because I only want to use it for fitness tracking, and I get about two days out of it. Still not comparable to 45 days, but def better.

I (can) get about a day and a half out of mine and charge it up while I'm eating lunch. Just don't have the screen lit up all the time.

SE lacks the always-on display and many of the health and wellness features. There's no cycle tracking or sleep tracking, for example.

Not 100% true, SE tracks sleep.

Two very different devices. The Amazfit doesn't get 45 days by being somehow better than an Apple Watch. It gets it by doing far less than an Apple Watch which reduces the idle power significantly. A fitness tracker with some minimal smart watch features is not the same thing as smart watch with some fitness tracker features.
