fyi for those that care about parallel or virtual machine office installation. This office suite is not compatible.

What's a good price? I'm not willing to pay full retail from Microsoft. Stack Social / PayPal should offer some protection.

$8-12 (example promokeys(net) for 10.60) check reddit for input, but any of these keys can get revoked with in the same timespan, but spending 4x the price means that if and when you do have to get another key, its going to be that much more painful. But paying more for the key (aside from an actual retail key) does not give you any added benefit aside from a false peace of mind.

I looked at promokeys but they force you to create an account with them. I just decided stack Social and PayPal vs promokeys was worth $15 difference. It associated with my Microsoft account.

Newbie here - have a couple old laptops that are practically new that need to be installed with windows 10/11. And an updated office suite would be a bonus. Am I understanding that this SD is ms office pro and msft windows 11 pro? If so, I see people mention I'm just buying an activation code, so am I still going to Microsoft.com to install both programs onto a thumb drive to then have my laptops boot from bios and install off drive? Sorry I'm not as good with this as all of you. Any advice would be great. And yes, the laptops are within the last couple years and have by far the specs needed for both programs. Can I buy this once and use on my same 3 laptops I need to reinstall windows? Thanks so much and hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Jp

For a name brand laptop you don't need to buy anything to reinstall Windows. The license key is tied to the hardware, you don't need to do anything, Windows verifies your hardware to find the key. All you have to is create an installer USB drive and the license will get recovered automatically. But you might not be able to go to win 11 without installing 10 first if you didn't already upgrade to 11. Install 10, then if the machine supports 11 you can do the upgrade.

Sorry. I was trying to keep the message short so didn't want to go into details. Laptops run windows 7 and have an old security checkpoint for companies that are no longer in business. And we buy our own equipment. So in order to get these guys up and running again, I need to reinstall windows. Which I am in the process or doing for windows 7 and then make the free jump up to 10, but if this combo deal is an easy answer to get me to my even further goal for $35 bucks...that may be worth my time and energy. But I dont have alot of experience so just wanted to make sure I understood the process in how people are using this deal and how to to actually get it installed. Any pointers or confirmation that this will achieve my goal would be great. And can I use the same key for my laptops if they are all mine, or is that not how it works anymore.

Almost certain that they won't be capable of upgrade to Windows 11. This is for a Windows 11 activation key. If your computer is not eligible per hardware requirements to upgrade to 11, this would be a waste. You couldn't use the same key for each one either way.

Just curious about the Office users - if it's for personal use do you really find you're lost when you use an alternative brand office suite? Those can be had for free or extremely cheap, the latter may have a lot of features but just not laid out like MS Office. I figure if it's for work they probably provide you with it anyway? I'm not in a fancy position at work and now have a laptop with Office installed so just wondering what the situation is.
