I would stay away from all Scotts or any big box store branded seed. Do yourself a favor and buy quality grass seed and the right variety (KBG, TF, FF, and Rye for the cool season areas. Bermuda, St. Augustine, and Zoysia for the warm season areas.) Having a nice lawn is a lot of work and costs money, so stop throwing your hard-earned money and time down the drain and do it right the first time.

Do yourself a favor and stop buying Scotts or any big box store seed, it's all just a money grab. 1st - figure out what type of grass you need/want - KBG, Tall Fescue, Fine Fescue, Perennial Rye for the cool season area, Bremuda, St. Augustine, Zoysia for the warm seasons areas. 2nd - get high-quality grass seed - GCI, Stovers, United seed, Twin City (my favorite), Hancock, and even Jonathan green. 3rd - prepare the soil. Seed-to-soil contact is an important part of the success of overseeding your lawn. Mow your current lawn slightly shorter than normal and remove any clippings from the yard. Depending on the size of your lawn, you may want to consider raking to remove thatch and facilitate more seed reaching the soil surface. 4th - Spread the seed. Check for the appropriate application rate, which will vary based on seed selection. 5th - Fertilize. As soon as your grass seed is planted, apply New Lawn Starter. This will provide an excellent kickstart to your newly planted grass seed. Be sure to water the product in immediately after application. 6th - Water! Keeping the soil moist for the first couple of weeks after overseeding is important for proper germination of the seed. In addition, for the starter fertilizer and HumiChar to be most effective they must be watered into the turf. Water up to four times daily during the first weeks to ensure consistent moisture.
