Haven't been following prices on these recently but this seems good. Is this the model that both the top and bottom plates get up?

Looks like this model doesn't have the smart sensor. Ninja and the bajillion variations..

thanks! What is the appeal of having a heating element on both the top & bottom? I don't particularly care to use this with the lid open (unless I'm missing something), so I'm struggling to understand the use-case, or why I should care. Would love to hear your thoughts

How well does the air fryer work compared to a dedicated one? Something like this interests me, but only if I can replace my air fryer.

My experience with top versus dual hearing: I have had six Ninja air fryers in the last 5 months!!!

Five of them were refurbished IG651 units with the dual heating elements:
*I ended up returning all of them. Four with various hardware issues, either they cut out randomly during cooking or the temperature probe randomly was undetected. One was because Woot advertised one model but sent another. There are so many refurbished units available everywhere, I think it was an issue with the hardware.
*People in the forums were complaining about the food sliding down there ig651 because of the slight angle but I never had that issue.
*It really did a fantastic job with steaks and chicken.
* It had a clever release mechanism for the grease filter on top. I loved it

Before this I had an older generation of this top heating model:
*It worked great, a real workhorse never any issues. I used it for several years.
*Perhaps the dual heating unit cooked steaks a little better, but as far as veggies and chicken it was the same or better.
*The air fryer part worked great.
*I used the dehydrate function once, not worth my time.

I ended up with a new DG550 (top heating). It is the next step up from this one. So far I'm super happy with it.
