If you put them in the tank, but not if you put them in the Kaboom toilet bowl cleaner.

It's not even the seal that I'd be worried about. It's the plastic in the ballcock softening to the point that they snap under water pressure, spraying water everywhere.

Back in 2005, we worked with a toilet manufacturer and I went out to multiple jobs of investors who put these types of tabs in vacant homes. The damage was incredible, to the tune of over $100k each house. After testing, the chlorine levels were astronomically high!

Get a plastic spray bottle at the dollar store. Full it with vinegar. Spray your toilet after using it. Deodorizes. You can get a toilet brush too for cleaning. Buy disinfectant to clean the brush and some sort of bathroom spray if the vinegar is annoying you. That will all cost less than $6 and will last you 6 months to a year.

won't damage your toilet or pollute the water system.

These will destroy your rubber flaps over time and cause your toilet to constantly try and fill the tank up with water because there will be a gap in the flap. If you're trying to clean your toilet bowl, just spray bleach inside the bowl and use a light cleaner for the surrounding toilet.
