I got this on Walmart deal for $98. Just got my refund. These slowed down my internet and was only getting 1/3rd speed. The signal wasn't even great. I'd totally avoid.

Well if you are connecting all the routers by Ethernet cable than dual is okay but if you are planning to do a wireless setup than tri-band is essential.

Would this be an upgrade to ASUS 3 x RT-AC68U routers ? Mine are finally starting to give up and need to reboot them periodically now.

Edit: Found a review here https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/mot...i-6-system

Edit2: Researched some more. This is not for advanced users. It is a cloud connected router (much like those Google wifi devices but potentially even less flexible). No web ui. Configuration of the router only through their app. And one review on bestbuy mentions the hoops the person had to go through to get the default subnet changed from 10.10.1.x to 192.168.1.x. He apparently had to call their tech support and escalate to higher levels in tech support to get them to change it in their cloud database. Ouch!

Why is it so cheap? The mesh systems I've been looking at cost $300 plus. What's the catch here?

Is there a good router whether if its a mesh router or not that that has a built in vpn that once I am connected to the internet through that router whether if its with my iPhone or Playstation, the i.p will show a different location rather than the actual real i.p on those devices that I connect to that router?
Any of the newer Asus routers are good for VPNs. I use the ax86u and it also supports wireguard. You can also choose devices to bypass the VPN like cameras or thermostat.

Definitely interested in feedback from a user. How did you have yours setup? Was it setup all wireless or wired backhaul? Whats interesting about this unit is that the "real life" end-user reviews are very mixed but this was pretty positively reviewed on tech sites and such at launch.

This is not the latest technology and probably compares unfavorably against pretty much any system $200 or more these days. Newer devices are tri-band (allowing a dedicated band for wireless communication between them) and offer additional features. That said, this was well over $200 a year ago so definitely a good deal for what it offers (provided it functions as advertised, of course).

I have been really waiting for future proof 6E mesh router deals but was tempted by this and would have picked to try had it been with tri band which prevented from pulling the trigger and ultimately saving $$

If I don't know better, I would buy this wifi6 mesh system in a heartbeat but I know better. I need a tri-band mesh system.

Apparently two surprising things:
1. Lack of support for (old school) 2.4ghz devices.
2. Lack of web interface for router configuration. You are stuck with their proprietary motosync app on Android/iOS. Even with that, configuration options are limited (e.g., no port forwarding).

Will this work as acces point mode only? I'd like to keep my existing router/firewall and connect these as access points only.

I'm not sure number 1 is correct. It supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. You can't manually separate them like you can on some routers but it will allow for connection on 2.4ghz only devices.

Agreed on number 2 and I'm also not a fan of not having a web interface. Dumb. For port forwarding, there are differing responses to that question on Amazon's page. One person says it doesn't support it while another says it's in the advanced settings in the app. Will find out soon.

My understanding is that it also doesnt support WPA3 and it doesnt have a USB connection either.

All those downsides said, I'm not sure that there is something else that offers the functionality it does have for 50 bucks.

It's $50, what do you expect?

Tell me you know nothing about WiFi without telling me you know nothing about WiFi.

It didn't say anywhere in the product description or post so a lot of people who are not in the know would buy this thinking it's a smoking deal. It isn't.

I got my TP-Link Deco AXE5300 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System Router refurb for $90. TRI-BAND.

Would this do better than a Netgear RAX50-100NAR Nighthawk 6-Stream AX5400 WiFi 6 Router?

does anyone wonder why a compay like motorola would waste their time getting into an already crowded market of routers when they are certainly not known for them?

like what made someone their go "Hey, let's try to make money selling routers"

or was it more of a play to just buy some cheap chinese no name brand and market it as their own and hope to flip some coin b/c people might buy it w/ their name on it?
