There is a reviewer on the amazon page for this claiming one of the ax drives killed his two other attached hd. Is that even possible?
In my not-an-expert opinion, it seems like it would cook the psu or motherboard before it effected any other drives. How would one sata device cause issues to other sata devices? (strange)

I'm not saying it's not possible but it is highly suspect. Could be other issues related to the power supply, cabling, or user error.

I'm currently using 2 Teamgroup SSDs for gaming. Mission-critical things (OS, work, etc) I run on Samsung drives and back up in the cloud and on a local server. I would trust these drives for gaming with no hesitation.

Its very confusing to me how it would be possible, I guess maybe if all the drives were on the same power cable and the wiring was bad?

cool story, sounds like the reviewer is a Samsung fan boy. i have bought a lot of these drives and not once have i gotten a bad one. maybe one or two that were under spec, but still booted and was faster than a spinning drive, so i just left it.

but hey, if that story brings the price down for these drives, I'm all for it. woot

Im reading that the QLC drive is bad for writes when nearly at full capacity. I'm just looking to replace my internal HDD that has recently crapped out. It just stores old photos/videos other docs that are backed up multiple places elsewhere. Would this be a decent replacement? Or should I just wait til BF?

QLC drives without DRAM (like this Team Group QX), do slow down when near capacity. Is the drive your replacing about 4TB and do plan on putting more data on it? Or if you're willing to spend an extra $19 now and either have a spare NVME slot or don't mind using it with an external enclosure, you can get the 4TB Team Group MP34, which is an older Gen 3 drive with DRAM.

The 4TB would be replacing a 3TB that is was around 75% full. Unfortunately, my second M.2 slot is SATAIII only. I could use "future proof" and get an NVME but I have space for the 2.5" and would rather not have a "dongle". Also external enclosure would have the entire solution be around $200. which puts me in 2.5" Samsung Evo 4TB pricing. Its not super urgent, so I might just hold off until BF just to see. Thanks for the reply

I was eyeing that 4TB EVO too when it dropped down around $170 back during I think the Amazon Prime sale a few months ago. I checked the Samsung official site to get an additional discount, but they didn't price match... until the next day after I already gave up and forgot about it until after I saw the expired $153 deal.

Bitter regrets aside, it sounds like waiting for Black Friday is your best bet.

Yea they gave away the game, it was an old/junk pc. How far back do you have to go for 120GB samsung, close to a decade.

"My PC had 120 GB Samsung SSD that was running my Windows OS and a 1 TB Seagate HDD "

Maybe cheap power splitter on a junk psu. SSD uses so little power that if that's what tipped things over the edge, it was over already.

Its fine for that kind of static storage, may drop speed in long writes but how often do you do that.

The power cables are chained together so he may have overloaded his power supply by adding one too many drives or shorted the power connector or used a bad adapter on the power connector and that could fry anything else attached to the same cable.

Like if this thing shorted on one end it would fry anything connected to it: https://imgur.com/jzj1FyX

It's possible but it would be PSU cable issue, not the drive. Cheapo PSU cable with bad wiring can fry all 3 drives that's attached to the SATA power cable...

Seems to be the same price from Newegg, plus it includes a 64GB microsdxc, plus possibly cashback from certain places.
