8th gen Intel makes a phenomenal Plex box or home server! Mine has an 8tb ssd and is a torrent and Plex and backup server for the whole house!

So this finally worked for me to create a local account with a new Win 11 setup from scratch using a USB stick. Downloaded the Win 11 bootable copy from MS.

Disconnect LAN/wifi
Next use the steps from here to BypassNRO command

1. Start the Window 11 setup.
2. When you see the Let's connect you to a network screen with the grayed-out Next button, press Shift + F10. This launches a command prompt.
Now run the following command at the command prompt:
oobe\BypassNRO

3. After your system restarts, you need to select your region and keyboard layout once again. But this time, on the Let's connect you to a network screen, you will see a new I don't have internet option.

I'd want to clearly state for reference that the upgrade process on supported systems like these can be as easy as waiting for a Windows Update notification.

Of course, if you're impatient you could also perform it manually through any number of other ways [microsoft.com].

I love the micro systems as they're more than enough horsepower for long-term productivity PCs while also being reasonably serviceable and upgradable. The SFF systems are a little bulkier but at these prices discounts remain attractive (while also being just as serviceable as the MFF systems).

This is good to hear. I was actually just looking for something to use as a Plex box to take the load off my server. I'll give this thing a shot.

I've used quite a few ThinkCentre Tinys, which are similar to this. I recently picked up an OptiPlex 3060 Micro off of eBay and am happy with it. It's very similar to the ThinkCentre Tiny and is just as serviceable/upgradable. I was concerned that the fan might be annoying, as the I had an OptiPlex 5050 Micro (one generation older) with an annoying pulsating fan, but this one is very quiet, even quieter than the Lenovos. I only use it to run Roon Server, but it's perfectly adequate for web browsing and office apps as long as you put in an SSD - it supports 2.5-inch SATA and m.2 NVME drives.

Does the micro size have room for a 3.5" drive, or only the smaller 2.5 (or m.2)?

EDIT: Seems not, found references after searching elsewhere. Would probably grab a SFF if there were any left, but really need the 3.5" storage that the MFF is missing. Maybe a USB 3 external..... meh.

How do you use this as Plex box? How is it accessing storage? Virtual cloud drive, network mapped drive, or USB external?

If I put in a new Drive do I have to clone the existing Drive or do I just hit some fancy button and it loads up Windows on the new Drive?
