Here's a deal for OLD MEMBERS, not new members. If your BJ's membership has expired at least 2 months ago, try one of these links to renew for $20 instead of $55.

BJs.com/20Renewal [BJs.com]
BJs.com/RenewForLess [BJs.com]
BJs.com/Renewal20 [BJs.com]
BJs.com/RenewtoSave [BJs.com]
BJs.com/20Rejoin [BJs.com]
BJs.com/Rejoin20 [BJs.com]

Good Luck!

(They've been harassing me so much I decided to renew for the cheap gas and my mountain of toilet paper is down to 6 rolls.)

EDIT: The 4th link "RenewtoSave" mentioned a $20 reward on the postcard. It expires 9/15/23.

I have all 3... each have different things plus some may be closer than others.

Bjs has more of a supermarket feel with a deli and less bulk stuff. I get annoyed at all the coupon clipping on the app that's required and keep track of what's a good price.

If you do self checkout with the app all the available coupons for your items are right there in the cart with an easy redeem button. It's so much easier than the other methods of clipping coupons.

Yes that's not what I'm talking about. Just the fact that it's annoying to clip 300 or more coupons manually then have to remember what's on sale

The first link (20RENEWAL) worked for me, so thanks OP.

My membership had expired August 31, so it was a quick turnaround. (I'm pretty sure I did the same thing at the same time of year last year.)

Any good deals for new members?
I followed the advice of someone in a previous thread and did a google search for "bjs free membership" a week ago. It should return a sponsored ad as the first result offering a $20 membership. I just tested and it's still working.

After doing the math I decided to do the discounted Circle+ membership for $65 instead and get the stupid credit card because I do enough shopping there that it'd pay for itself with the 5% rewards.

I was messing around in the app yesterday and it turns out I've already got $40 in rewards that I didn't even know I'd get, so the membership will only cost me $25 after my first trip.

What a crappy site. I have not been a member for over 2+ years, it keeps on saying "As a current member, you're not yet eligible for this offer." on most of the above links. Not sure where it got info that I am member while I am not.

If you're trying through online keep in mind that BJs keeps old emails in the system as existing customers so new sign up won't go through since it will keep telling you to sign in using that existing email which logs you in into old account and ask for full renewal price usually . There's way to delete the email from their system through app or by calling/getting in touch with CS.

Besides location, what makes you choose BJ's over Sam's and Coscto?

Don't make the choice, I have BJ's and Costco nearby about 2 miles away and Sam's Club about 10 miles away, but I have all three memberships, different kind reason will need, when you thinking about, You will need it, don't make the choice.

BJ and Costco.
One thing BJs does better is accept manuf coupons WITH store coupons on the same item in same transaction. They also have some things that Costco doesn't. Like Deli dept where they slice your cold cuts to order at a great price. For ex Oven roasted turkey breast is $7.49/lb for their brand or 8.99 for Dietz and Watson. Shoprite own brand is $16.99 (or is it 18.99?) lb. Costco doesn't have that.
No Sam's here
So are you saying you can brinq in manufacture coupons and use them along with the e coupons in the app?

The Costco near me is a mad house 24-7. Forget about going on the weekends and finding parking. I chose BJs simply for this reason.

I recommend people go into BJ's and see if they can get the upgrade to BJ's Club+and for cheap. It's normally $85, but we got it for $70 before tax. This is NOT the credit card. It's the upgraded membership which gives you 2% rewards cash on all purchases plus 5 cents off gas standard (and you'll get a new black membership card). $70 less $20 = $50. $50 divided by 2% = $2500. If you spend more than $2500/yr at BJs you'll more than cover the extra cost of the membership (not including the extra gas discount, for those that get gas at BJ's).

I can't speak to Sam's, but I can speak to CostCo vs BJ's:

1) CostCo is always a madhouse, BJs never.

2) CostCo allows only VISA credit cards BJ's is everything.

3) CostCo has free online shipping for groceries but the prices are higher because the free shipping is baked into the price, whereas BJ's shows the actual club price and charges $75 for shipping. I'm not advocating for the shipping services, however because the shipping at BJ's isn't free, you get to see the exact prices of what you'd pay in store at BJ's. If I want to see how much an item costs in store at Costco I have to call (this is supposedly going to change and the app will show in store prices). For electronics, among other things, Costco prices match in-store.

4) BJ's has free in store and curbside pickup. Costco has no pickup.

5) BJs has 1% cash back via cashback sites vs none for CostCo.

6) BJ's has a full service deli, where you can get sliced meats. Costco does not.

6a) The three foot hoagies from the BJ's deli counter for catering are a great deal!

7) BJ's has all the big name brands. CostCo usually does not (although the Kirkland brand is just the big brands under the Costco brand. E.g. bumblebee tuna is the Kirkland tuna). If you run a candy/snacks vending machine business, you'll probably want to be a BJ's member.

8) the BJ's coupons in the app are really good and let you routinely beat the Costco prices, especially diapers with coupons. In the absence of coupons the prices are about the same, though.

9) BJ's tire services > Costco

10) Returns are easy and quick as the line is never long, not to mention deep inside the door. Every time I go to Costco the return line is out the door (didn't help that the returns are usually situated at the front of the store).

11) Better milk options.

12) All BJ's have propane refill. Not all Costco do.

13) Like Safeway/Giant, there will be items that give you a big gas discount. You could build up $1+/gal off if you are savvy.

14) Frequent random overall purchase coupons. There was a $10 off $150 taped to the front of the August flyer which I apparently missed.

Now the reverse:

1) Costco carries stuff that BJ's has discontinued. E.g. foam rogaine, some vitamins.

2) BJ's for Android app is sh~t and hasn't worked for almost a year and they aren't doing f-all about it.

3) Costco seafood, poultry, eggs, meat are all better. Besides offering prime level cuts, full size cuts are available. Want a full rib roast? Only Costco. Want a full filet mignon sirloin (not just the steaks)? Only Costco. I've never seen lobster tails so big offered at BJ's. Costco had some huge ones in-season (June-July). Want organic chicken? Only Costco.

4) Unique fruits only at Costco. Hydros strawberries, lychee, etc.

5) More prepared options (if that's your thing). Besides the rotisserie chicken, tacos, salads, etc.

6) Rotating notable clothing brands at Costco. Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic. BJ's only has it's standard lower level brands.

7) Fast food to eat at the store (if that's your thing). BJ's has completely gotten rid of this.

8) Available beyond the East Coast.

9) Since Costco is so huge and so popular, you'll see some really unique food products show up that you'll never see in BJ's. BJ's sticks to it's Berkeley Jensen brand and the big national brands, and rarely experiments with crazy stuff.

.
.
.
As far as overall prices on similar items are concerned, you'll find one item at BJ's cheaper per unit, then you'll find a different one cheaper per unit at Costco. E.g. vinegar is cheaper at BJ's, but honey is cheaper at Costco. So at the end of the day it is a wash. Just those BJ's coupons will often times make a big difference.

While the thread has not become "Sam's vs Costco" , could someone please confirm/let me know if I should see somewhere about the "$20 reward"? Clicked first three links, all of them work for me for $20 renewal but I don't see a note about the reward.

Hmm.. this does not work for me. My membership does not expire until Jan 2024 and when I clicked on the links above (after signing in) to try to renew, it brings me to upgrade to a club plus card instead.
