Many of the features, like video storage, and setting a temporary guest code, are only included with a subscription plan starting at $3.99 a month.

Lots of reviews on charging the battery twice a month. I've had a regular garage keypad operating for 5 years on a single 9V battery and the reliability of a garage door keypad is one of the big benefits.

For those technologically inclined, one option is to keep your existing garage keypad and add a $40 Wyze camera.

This would be more realistic (but more of an install pain) if it was wired.

Yeah after reading, two big downsides. Needs 5ghz wifi, so if it's not close to a router, weak signal will make this lousy. Second, battery concerns have me thinking just a regular keypad.

Got the myQ garage opener at the lowest price a while back, this seems like an "ok" addition. My set up is one of the cheap wyze cameras with an SD card for storage hanging from my garage motor. Can verify if it's open or closed by opening app or if I forget I start getting motion notifications

I've been using a Meross for about 6 years and it has worked flawlessly the entire time. I think I paid $25 and it works with all garage doors. Still availible and still supported with occasional updates. I've been tempted from time to time with MyQ prices so low. But all I'll get is what I already have and probably not work nearly as well. If wifi and app control as well as notifications when door is opened too long, look no further than the Meross. Hard to be 100% happy with modern smarthome stuff but I couldn't ask for more. I haven't used my outside keypad in years.

The battery pack looks like it uses standard lithium ion cells, which probably run about 3.7V each.

Hooking this up to solar to recharge it shouldn't be difficult.
I bought this at the beginning of August. Paid around 90$. Charge port on the battery is inside of a sealed door that can only be accessed via removal of a security screw, so ymmv.

I bought this at the beginning of August for around $90. I needed a new opener anyhow. I also have several Wyze cameras inside and outside of my garage. The audio is much improved over the Wyze cameras and it gives my wife more peace of mind. You initially get 30 days of free video storage history, and they are running deals on that right now, too. I opted for the 14 day for about $40 a year. Outside of paying for video storage, you get on demand and immediate video notifications and activity, but no playback. It sets up just like a normal keypad, hit the learn button and punch in your code. Chamberlain opener. I have been using mine about 40 days or so, battery is about half discharged. We are a family of 2 and may not use the garage door as much as others. Have not recharged it as of yet, will probably buy a spare battery at some point, but nothing immediate. Good deal, almost wish I had waited.

Is the charge port a standard one or what kind is it? This not being able to be hardwired is a deal break as this is an item that should have option for a solar panel (not sure myq makes one) or to run a wire to

I need to install MyQ to my garage door to make use of this, correct? Or is that included in this package?

TIA

I wish Ring would do something like this so I could add it to my current Ring Protect plan. Not really interested in paying another $3.99/mo. to just have video storage. Also, rechargeable battery is a definite no-go for me. As somebody else stated, the 9v battery in my current keypad lasts for years, and I'm not interested in pulling the thing off the wall just to charge it up every month or so. Would love to have one that was able to be hard-wired so I could hang it and not have to worry about it.
Chamberlain is super litigious about anyone making anything with garage door openers. They have held back innovation in the space for so long

I've found MyQ video clip access to be unreliable, so I'd consider this only if your focus is smart access and live interactions.

It's interesting that the concept essentially assumes people use their garage door as their front door - even for visitors. Not my experience but perhaps I'm out of the modern loop.

It's an interesting product, but seems to have limited use due to the internal battery and wifi requirement. Also, who doesn't have a smartphone already? I just give my guests access through the myQ app rather than bother with something like this, but maybe I'm missing something.

I purchased this for $64 a month ago. There is a maybe a 30sec lag between motion detection and when i receive a notification.. maybe it's a WiFi issue. If i open the garage from the keypad and immediately close it it seems to take about 5 mins before it'll accept my code again and open the garage. The battery last about two weeks. You have to unscrew the unit and remove battery to recharge. Most features require a $4/month subscription. For$60 it's okay.. just not perfect

In my opinion this is a dumb idea. You want that keypad 100% working if you need to get into your house. It's like the door key of Last Resort . That means not having to rely on a battery being charged.
