Many of the features, like video storage, and setting a temporary guest code, are only included with a subscription plan starting at $3.99 a month.

Lots of reviews on charging the battery twice a month. I've had a regular garage keypad operating for 5 years on a single 9V battery and the reliability of a garage door keypad is one of the big benefits.

For those technologically inclined, one option is to keep your existing garage keypad and add a $40 Wyze camera.

This would be more realistic (but more of an install pain) if it was wired.

Yeah after reading, two big downsides. Needs 5ghz wifi, so if it's not close to a router, weak signal will make this lousy. Second, battery concerns have me thinking just a regular keypad.

Annoying monthly subscriptions. You can't get any features unless you signup for subscription. Their app is filled with all the subscription stuff.

Ordinal retail is $100 dropped to $60 avg price on ebay .
Cons
- subscription fee
- it has its own rechargeable battery that dies on avg 30 days
- I have it lowest motion sensor setting so depending on angle it's mounted on your side garage and motion traffic it will go off often
- always issues reconnecting to the garage opener After you remove battery to recharge

Old garage door opener has 9v battery that been good over 5 years for me

I installed a MyQ garage opener and hooked up to my wife's phone about a month ago. Now it seems like we couldn't live without it. It's been wrong about reporting my door open twice in the hundreds of times we've used it, For us that's not a problem, but it may be if you're not home and don't have a camera.
I don't have the camera like this post, just the sensor, in case that makes a difference.
Recommend MyQ for easy setup and convenience.
Ditto. I cannot imagine how I functioned without it.

Not sure how I feel about battery issues with this MyQ keypad, as I use the old installed garage one and battery has needed replacement only once since I moved in 5 years ago.

I've found MyQ video clip access to be unreliable, so I'd consider this only if your focus is smart access and live interactions.

It's interesting that the concept essentially assumes people use their garage door as their front door - even for visitors. Not my experience but perhaps I'm out of the modern loop.
In areas with alleyway access, you have to park on the street in order to enter through the front door. The garage door becomes primary for access.

For homes set far back enough from the street with a longer drive, the garage again becomes the primary access.

I tried this and took it back for a few reasons:
1. It can only be programmed to open a single door. You'd think it could be smart enough to store two door codes for our second garage door but it's not.
2. Subscription = no go
3. While the battery seemed to get decent life during my trial, I don't like knowing it'll probably be out of battery the one time I actually have to use it.

Stick in cheap camera like Wyze in Garage, so it faces the door. That's how I have visibility in my Garage. Everyone want us to buy subscriptions it seems 😕

My MyQ notifications can arrive to my phone anywhere from immediately to 15 minutes late. Frustrating.

Monthly subscription for features on a garage door opener? I think we've seen it all now (at least until the app starts asking for tips for the garage door opener developers / designers -- then we'll have actually seen it all).

Thank you for this info! Was about to pull the trigger at $60 but if it can't control both doors then I'm not buying two!

Well the basic operation/status is free. That is, if you have a MyQ device you can open/close and know the status of the door through the app without a sub. If the opener has a built in camera you can also access that for free without a sub but that basically just makes it like any other camera. It's recording/storage that costs more.

For this device, it doesn't make sense at all to not have a hardwired option even if that hardwiring might be somehow working off the low voltage that a door opener might already provide (e.g. the same lv that the existing button would work on). I don't want to be charging the stupid thing every other month.

MyQ can't even work with Google home
You can still talk to it through the API by saying "ok Google, talk to MyQ".

It's partially Google's fault for why certain devices can't be added to Google Home.

I have this, installed it on July 19th. I currently am sitting at 23% battery and its giving a low battery warning. I've been meaning to go out and buy the $30 extra battery so you can have one ready to quickly swap them.

I have not changed the settings from their default sensitivity settings. I would assume those who are going through two batteries worth a month have WiFi issues where the device may be working harder to stay connected to the AP. They also could have the sensitivity jacked up to where anything at any distance will set off the camera recording capabilities. Lastly, maybe they're just mega users of the touchpad to access their garage. We're probably 1/3 keypad, 1/3 MyQ app, and 1/3 physical garage door opener.

It was a little wonky getting it associated with my older MyQ Chamberlain garage gateway (the one that actually plugs into your network). But after one support ticket I was able to figure it out.

I also added the interior garage camera that sticks to the bottom of your opener since I was coughing up the SaaS fees for the keypad cam.

I like it. But if you're thrifty on setting up another camera service yearly fee, you should pass.

It's frustrating the MyQ opener is compatible and works great with my Genie garage door opener, yet this product isn't compatible. Why not make this product just signal the MyQ product I already have to open/close the door. You'd think they'd work hand in hand rather than be limited to only a few brands of openers.

If you have a little bit of technical knowledge , you can convert any manual garage door system to smart by adding a relay for a fraction of the cost of these controls. something like this https://a.co/d/g6AEopf
