EEAAO #1 and probably Marcel the Shell with Shoes on were my favorite movies of 2021

I found the bonus content more interesting than the movie, especially the background on locations.
This is about double my usual buy price for movies, but I don't think I'll be owning this one at any price.
But after seeing a critic's commentary/analysis about it, I came to understand there is a much deeper meaning in terms of nihilism to the movie that I didn't get at first. I think most critics rated high based on this deeper message, not the cheesy action parts. The point of the movie is to be ridiculously absurd to show nihilism, but the ultimate message is that meaning in life is what you make of it.
Yes, some people hated it because they didn't understand the "deeper" message, but everyone I know who didn't like it hated it because "life is what you make it" is a boring and played out message and the writer/director team didn't bring anything new to the table they just added hot dog fingers and dildo nunchucks.
If you got something out of it and liked it that's swell, but don't pretend that anyone who doesn't like it didn't understand the Jr. High level "deep" message behind the film.

- Actually paid to watch the movie in a theater. Walked out in the middle
- On Showtime, had to turn it off on the dildo-numchucks scene
- Tried to watch again, but gave up again.

I walked out of Asteroid City recently (only time this year) to give you a sense of my taste in movies - that too I thought looked original and interesting in the trailer (with strong cast) but it was boring and poorly executed
