Just a note: when I bought this 4k disc when it came out, the code would only redeem on Vudu, and I do not believe this movie is on MA.

I'm almost 40yrs old, and I've seen and watch TONS of movies, including being an AMC stubs member. A lot of people are slamming me but I watched this movie at the theater without having any expectation of it. And the movie made me laugh, cry at certain points uncontrollably, Sci-Fi elements, action. I think it also had to do with in upbringing of my childhood and never feeling I was enough. The constant struggle of the wife always looking for more, taking her husband for an idiot, when she had everything she needed all along. It was a very deep sentimental experience for me Coupled with the fact I'm a huge action and Sci-Fi fan with loads of hilarious ridiculousness. I've never seen a movie where, I'm laughing and crying at the same time. Paid full price upon release and have seen it 4 times total.

EEAAO #1 and probably Marcel the Shell with Shoes on were my favorite movies of 2021

I forced myself to finish it but I think it took three attempts - I fell asleep twice.

I found the bonus content more interesting than the movie, especially the background on locations.

This is about double my usual buy price for movies, but I don't think I'll be owning this one at any price.
You are not buying to many 4k disc then because this is a good deal because of how much they normally cost. It's rare that a film this new is at this price for the 4k version.

You are buying the physical version so why should you care.
Because if it redeemed on iTunes then it easily shares through my family group. If you don't care then that's great but you don't have to be curt when others do. I'm sure it was useful information to someone out there.

I, like most of you, thought the movie was only okay upon first watch. I mean, the cheesy action by itself, however unique, can only be entertaining for so long, especially if the audience don't grasp the broader context at first (I certainly didn't).

But after seeing a critic's commentary/analysis about it, I came to understand there is a much deeper meaning in terms of nihilism to the movie that I didn't get at first. I think most critics rated high based on this deeper message, not the cheesy action parts. The point of the movie is to be ridiculously absurd to show nihilism, but the ultimate message is that meaning in life is what you make of it.
The best explanation I've heard for why this movie is so polarizing is that it's a dumb person's idea of what a smart movie is.

Yes, some people hated it because they didn't understand the "deeper" message, but everyone I know who didn't like it hated it because "life is what you make it" is a boring and played out message and the writer/director team didn't bring anything new to the table they just added hot dog fingers and dildo nunchucks.

If you got something out of it and liked it that's swell, but don't pretend that anyone who doesn't like it didn't understand the Jr. High level "deep" message behind the film.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but MAN do people who have a different opinion than the majority of people sure love to talk about theirs constantly. I, for one, loved the movie. Yes, it's weird and absurdist, but I think that works very well with the story, and I think the performances are fantastic. It's not for everyone, but "I walked out of this movie" isn't something worthy of being worn as a badge of honor.

lol I felt like I was the only person that thought the movie sucked. I rented it based off all the hype and knowing the general premise and just turned it off towards the end when i stopped caring.

But is what it is.
I didn't care much for it on first watch either. Not sure if it was just multiverse hype or what but it's all opinion based anyway.

They lost me at dildo-numchucks... /sad vomit
  1. Actually paid to watch the movie in a theater. Walked out in the middle
  2. On Showtime, had to turn it off on the dildo-numchucks scene
  3. Tried to watch again, but gave up again.
I guess I don't get it..

I really enjoyed the movie for the absurdist humor; I'll agree though that I think that anyone preaching that there's some super deep message or that you gotta be smart to "get it" are kinda going overboard with it. Kind of reminds me of toxic Rick and Morty fans.

I for one want to hear the SD opinions good and bad. I learn quite a bit more about everything by reading the comments on a product and making up my own mind where to spend my money. All of you who want to censor those with negative opinions need to stfu - who the hell are you to limit free speech? After seeing ALL the opinions here, I have decided I need to watch it before buying a physical copy for my collection...

It did well with the critics and I'll give it credit for originality / going off the beaten path but I didn't like it at all and wished I had walked out of the theatre. FYI when I saw it several people did walk out and as someone who has been going nearly every week (since the Moviepass days and now with AMC Stubs) - I've never seen so many walkouts before. It's a very polarizing movie.

I walked out of Asteroid City recently (only time this year) to give you a sense of my taste in movies - that too I thought looked original and interesting in the trailer (with strong cast) but it was boring and poorly executed
You are entitled to your opinion, and I'm sure your perspective will help some. If you are an admirer or familiar with some Eastern ideas on karma, rebirth, enlightenment, nirvana, etc you will like or appreciate this movie. If you are a fan of Being John Malkovich or Airplane or a reality bending movie like Inception or Interstellar, you will like this movie. Otherwise, you probably won't.

Personally, I didn't think it sucked, but I certainly didn't like it as much as I thought I would based on the critical reception and reviews. That said, it's certainly an unusual movie and I can see why a lot of poeple may not like it.
