Lol I paid $55 for it a month ago thinking it was a great deal. Looks like the deals keep getting greater. Meanwhile Apple charging hundreds for the same amount…
Apple will have everything soldered to the board making every Apple© product almost impossible to upgrade.

Did you use it for a laptop or desktop? I put it in may laptop and even after adding a heatsink it still seems to run hot.
P5 to P5 300GB write test got it up to 61C in a desktop with motherboard supplied heat sink. Idles around 45C as the OS drive. The second P5 idles or sleeps at 41C as reported by hwmonitor.

Keep an eye on it, a lot of M.2s go on sale fairly frequently. The best price I can currently find on it is $38, but it's definitely been on sale for less.

Seen 980pro 1TB for $49.99 a couple times recently. This price for older/slower seems less slick. Am I missing anything about these drives?
big inventory clear out. they're now running low so these prices will not be around for longer despite people hoping they will go down further.

Not a bad price, but I'd wait around for the 1TB 980 Pro to go on sale since it's a Gen 4 NVMe SSD and I've seen them go as low as $50 in price twice w/in the last 3 months.

What's missing is that gen4 PCI-E supposedly runs hotter than gen3 drives. So for people who's laptops do not support gen4. Using a gen 4 drive increases heat with no additional increase in performance. the deals on gen 3 drives are still valid for those folks.

Should I purchase 1 to install into Synology Diskstation 1522+ that I just bought from the last Synology deal? I will install it as SSD cache upgrade for the NAS unit.

Is that one any good ? I need a cheap one for my backup PC that I want to use to create a project home-lab for school. I already have a cheap 500gb 2.5 SSD but would like to add an extra 1tb.

I haven't installed the two I purchased (one for laptop and another for desktop) but i did install it on a build I made for my neighbor back in 2022 and no complaints in a year.

It's a very rare SD deal shipped and sold by Amazon, so when it does pop up, it's gone instantly.

Gpus are a different story but the cycle of old gen bottoming out seems true for ssds where prices won't drop. Instead there are next gen ssds which may or may not be better than last gen as shown by how different all these ssds can be.

As much as I like this deal, I can't help but think that prices are going to continue to drop the closer we get to Black Friday...then again it's only $40 (so if you need it now, grab one)…and yes, maybe you only save another $5 or so (or perhaps get 2TB for $50) but isn't that the principle of Slickdeals?

https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/smile.gif

(So I think I'll wait, but this is still a solid deal and a "thumbs up")
Idk much about slickdeal culture but people say there are good months, periods of time to buy and then times where there aren't any deals. So it would feel bad a bit if there wasn't a deal and you needed to buy something not on sale to use right away, not before.

If the $100 2tb 980 pro w/ heatsink prime deal is anything to go by, black friday seems a good guess but it's never guaranteed.

Ssd get cheaper over time for basic storage but the differences between the ssd technologies vary depending on use (work, gaming). I hope ssds and other pc parts don't become increasingly expensive like gpus.

My question was more to see if it's a good time to buy. I feel like a lot of times a good deal is posted only to be bested a few weeks later.
Slickdeals in a nutshell. Although I feel the reverse happens where older deals months ago are barely bested by a few dollars for the amount of time that passes. People say overrated but take the $100 980 2tb prime deal. Expensive at $50/tb but it came with a heatsink and is said to be a decent well rounded ssd. All of that was 2 months ago. There are probably better, cheaper ssds than the 980 pro deal but I'm too lazy to switch brands and I'll go with the herd mentality of "the 980 is alright, not the best value but ok".

Probably accurate, haha. There's always a better dealt to be had somewhere in the future I guess.
