While I know there are a lot of cool options for kids that we may not have had (depending on your demographic), saying things like '...no kid plays with Legos...', even as a generalized, over-emphasized point, doesn't seem well informed.

Nintendo in 2022 had revenue of 3.5 billion dollars.
Lego in 2022 had revenue of 9.5 billion dollars.

But please tell us more about how children don't play with LEGO.

There are less than 100 Lego stores in the United States, I've never seen one packed lol.
I have a house and a fridge full of food, so no one is homeless or hungry because I don't see it.

Why is it $90 for blocks? Video games are cheaper...no wonder why no kid plays with Legos anymore...
Much like Disney ticket price increases. Lego prices have remained pretty steady overtime. the biggest increase being this year.

Oh wait....there isn't any!
My 11-year-old loved the bonsai tree set. My 10-year-old loved the flower bouquet. Both sets are targeted to 18+. My son started doing Technic sets at age five. Lego Robotics starts in 3rd and 4th grade.

First of all, this is a free market, any product can be set with any price tag, as long as there's people wanted to buy. Second, have you even been to any Lego store? You assume the store is packed with adults because "no kid plays with legos anymore"?

Target is a Lego store, Costco is a Lego store, CVS/Walmart are Lego stores, Amazon is a Lego store, etc etc. These places all tend to stock items that people like to buy.

I personally take my 3 yr old to an actual Lego store only on special occasions - otherwise i look for deals. It's very expensive at MSRP, agreed, but watching your kid persevere with complex and tactile construction projects - and then use their imaginations to adapt and expand those projects - is super rewarding for everyone concerned. In my opinion, that's very much worth the money - especially when kits like this can often require multiple hours or days of focused attention.

I can 100% see why many folks would feel priced out of the market though. It ain't cheap. For as long as he's into it though, I'm happily riding the Lego train. (And we'll be doing a Lego City Passenger Train set at Christmas ☺️).

Also, "nickel and diming" is maybe not the term to use here when referring to perceived vast overpricing. I think this would be closer to "monopoly pricing". There are alternative kits to be found out there. None are very cheap though - since achieving such consistent production quality (and instruction quality) is no simple task.
Nice to read something well written. Thank you

Modesto, CA Costco had about 50 of these at the $90 price. It looks like they might have just arrived. There was no price and I was about to ask when an employee came up with a $90 price tag.
