Are you from the future?!?
Used to be able to whack someone over the head with a thinkpad. Now if you do that, it will crack in 7 places. They're not bad by any means, but the old beastly thinkpads are long gone.

BTW Latitude laptops are generally also pretty well-built. The real difference is vs something like the Inspirons or the cheaper IdeaPads. With the deals Lenovo runs, you can generally get ThinkPads way cheaper than comparable Latitudes, which Dell prices super high for consumers. (Used is a different story - Latitudes are much cheaper, which tells you something.)
Hopefully the deal comes back.

Then the office started changing to lighter laptops as and when available, of course they replaced lots of things to make it lighter and as the time goes by the laptops keep getting thinner and lighter and to achieve that they have to make lots of changes.
I used an Apple MacBook from that era too and people forget though it was a solid build how much it used to weigh.
Now I am using both Thinkpad and MacBook both are very comparable in build quality. Apple products are always overrated by Apple fanboys.

Doesn't happen on any Dell that I've had. Unfortunately that alone is a deal breaker for me with Lenovo now.
