For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

Thats the biggest benefit for me. Two phones, two tablets. Plug this in to the hotel Ethernet and done.

This small router has overheating issue..
You have to make sure to deploy the antennas as if you don't it may overheat because it vents on the sides. With that said I haven't had any issues. You can some proof to back up your claim?

Once you enter your vpn info you can force all traffic through that vpn, it will not allow traffic outside of the tunnel. Another thing I havent seen mentioned is the ability to use zero tier and tailscale on it.
Oh so I need to have my own VPN, like NordVPN would work w/ this?

Using public VPN providers can be detected. If you really want to appear as if you're working from home, you need to connect it to a router at home.

I bought this for a trip last year and I believe it was Marriott that this wasn't playing nice with. Kinda ruined the need I had. Ended up just using my iPhone as a hotspot...

I attempted to use their AC version of this (MT1300) the Wonder of the Seas March 2022 and had zero success. It worked fine testing at home prior to cruise, but I couldn't get it to connect to the Wonder's APs. Was a shame since it was a pretty feature-packed travel router. Luckily, I brought my original TP Link I was supposed to replace the GL one with as a backup and that worked.

Of course, this was a year and a half ago, so things could've changed. YMMV

The last I knew, visible was cracking down and this would only work with the TTL change plus a VPN.

I bought this during Prime days. A couple of my devices had trouble connecting to it by wifi. Not sure why. I was try to use it at a hospital with public guest wifi.
I still need to play with it a little more and see how it goes. Seemed some others on their forums had some troubles too.

This is a good travel router, it worked great on my last trips, there were a few hotels which I had to connect my phone first then clone the MAC ID but other than that it worked smoothly. This replaced my old slate which I got pre-pandemic.
is it easy to clone the MAC ID of your phone to the router?

A couple of weeks ago I was staying at a KOA campground and they provided a passcode for 1 device to connect to their WiFi.

It was super hot so all 3 of my kids just stayed in the RV with their devices and TV but I had to connect my Galaxy S22 to the the park's WiFi and enable WiFi sharing while leaving my phone untouched outside the RV. It sucked but it worked.

Would I benefit from using something like this next time?

Edit: Looks like it's USB powered which is pretty cool too.

I used it on an RC cruise over spring break. Worked like a charm. The envy of many guests. Just realize that you need to be within fairly close proximity for the router for it to work. Also - only one device can be connected to the RC account at any time. I let the kids take the router back to their room at night. Which meant I couldn't login on my phone or it would disrupt their connection.

Opal is a budget version of the original Beryl. (Opal vs Beryl 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/GlInet/c..._vs_beryl/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/GlInet/c...le_router/)

And then this one is a much, much faster Beryl, feature-wise.
