For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

The fan is driven by the CPU/board temperature, not how many users get connected .
normally when it used after an hour, the fan starts running, with the CPU temperature increasing, the fan speed increases , also its noisy. the MT3000 is not a comparable device. This Beryl AX has 2.5Gb ethernet port which is its sale point , but it generates most heat from there, even most people never uses that. MT3000 is cheaper and quieter , low power consumption, and much pratical than Beryl AX AX3000
Um... Beryl AX and MT3000 are the same thing. https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-mt3000/

This has a lot of travel-centric features. Like a physical toggle switch that (you choose what you it does): turn whole-network Adblock on/off, connect to a VPN so all of its traffic is encrypted, or even activate a VPN killswitch to make sure that your traffic is ONLY encrypted (no VPN=no internet). It's all stuff you COULD do in a larger router, but would take more configuration.
Do I have to subscribe to a VPN service to use this device's VPN features? On the other hand, if I am already using a VPN service, can I just simply enable VPN in my laptop or mobile devices and don't have to bother with this device's VPN features at all?

You can use a paid one, or another common solution is to run a VPN server at home and let this connect to it as a client. That way you're encrypting from the road back to your house, and then using your home's connection to do the browsing. And that's free.

Thanks. I will have to look into how to create a VPN server at home.

Ops!
That was a typo, it should be MT1300 (Beryl) than MT3000 (Beryl AX)

Amazon has it for $120 and then two separate coupons, so around $80 final cost.

Is the VPN automatic for this? Just connecting to this router will always encrypt the data?
It will allow you to use a VPN, and configure it to be always on if you like. It doesn't replace a VPN, or provide a free VPN itself.

I spend so much on this site for the things that I don't need. Is there an AliExpress equivalent to this that I can buy and wait for a month to get delivered?

Paging the mods to help this person's wallet by banning them! Big Grin

And to your question, no because Gl.inet is pretty much THE name in travel routers. TP-Link and I think HooToo used to have a presence, but they got beaten out. Nothing else comes close in features.

You're just spouting nonsense that's progressively getting more nonsensical.

"The fan is driven by CPU temperature, not how many users are connected"

Do you not understand what load is and what causes it? Of course more users means higher CPU usage which leads to an increase in temperature.

Name one router that doesn't have higher load as more traffic is sent through it. I'm sure all of the major data centers would love to have it.

If you don't understand this basic concept, you obviously won't have a single recourse for how to mitigate or fix it, which is precisely why a majority of the consumer hardware on the market is watered down and holds your hand through every step.

But the fact that you think every piece of hardware should be just as dumbed down so that it receives your stamp of approval is plain ignorance.

whats the difference between this vs just bringing your home router with you, other than that home routers are a bit bigger?
I can only comment on certain routers they usually can hijack the wifi signal and extend them, but it's like a wireless extender you still get the ip address assigned from hotel, and visible to all the guests(sniffers) on hotel wifi.

This device on the other hand is act as a gateway, internal DHCP and adguard, vpn so all the sniffers can only see a guest is sending/receiving encrypted traffic w/o knowing how many devices, what your traffic consist of.

If the hotel have ethernet, then yes, a home router can do the same thing like this. but it really shines when it can only be done wirelessly.
