For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

i wish there was trade in program. i have the beryl before this with AC but want the AX but cant justify the need....
Don't get too much FOMO. The old Beryl (MT1300) is still good, and this one doesn't totally obsolete it (it's still fast enough). Beryl MT1300 also has one additional lan port and has a microsd card slot if you want to serve up media without using the usb port and having a usb stick poking out of it. Beryl MT1300 is still an ideal video server for the kids on a long car ride.

I forgot about that removal of sd slot! Well I feel better. Need more people like you around to stop the Slickdeals from my spending more than I'd save.

Hahah, glad to help save some monies. I felt like you when I first started looking at the Beryl AX (I like how it's got a faster soc and radios) but losing the microsd slot, a port, and maybe having some fan noise for me is a deal breaker. I wonder if they left it out to not cannibalize sales of the MT1300.

This is really good. I remember when I used to work a travel job from Monday to Thursday at various client locations all over the US. I used to take something similar with me, not the exact same model, but I believe it was a TP-Link device with Wi-Fi connectivity. Once I set it up in my hotel room, all my devices were securely connected to my own network.

It is more common now to use Sharepoint, OneDrive, Office 365, etc. The need has dwindled for on premise connections. There are still apps that require it, but they can be put behind Okta and such. It's a very different world than it was, but a lot of places still have some form of VPN. And VPN should be used when traveling to encrypt traffic.
Depends on your job. There's lots of jobs where you need access to internal systems that cannot be reached directly over the internet.

Could I connect this to the Ethernet cable in my work office and connect my devices.. so that they won't be able to see what I do on my personal devices?
I can assure you that connecting this to a corporate network to encrypt your traffic will get you fired about a thousand times more quickly than almost anything you could do on your personal devices (which shouldn't be on the corporate network for your own protection anyway).

I don't really understand what this can do that my phone cannot.

From any modern phone you can:
OpenVPN network to connect to home
Use a multitude of public vpn services
Turn my phone into a routable hotspot.

For someone that works in a major school system with tight network security (the school requires you to give the MAC address for the device, and they don't give you the password directly)- can that someone use this to get wifi on their device without IT knowing?

If you've already given your laptop/pc Mac address, could probably use beryl to clone that Mac address and then connect all other devices to beryl including setting up the connection between router and school network via glinet ui

One underrated use of GL.inet routers like this Beryl AX is a using it with paid VPN service or Smart DNS with smart TVs/devices without having to muck around with your existing home router. I'm still rocking a Mango MT300N-V2 with Nord to get VPN benefits on my Roku devices with MLB.tv, Netflix, and Disney+.
