Great packaging,
Drives get stamp/marked Recertified , also gets a new label to what appeared to be from Seagate .
SMART data gets zero out..

They are louder than traditional drives.. worth the buy.. $10.50/ TB

Satisfaction Guarantee: Return for refund within 30 days of package reception date.

SO test the drive as soon as you get it..

I used the Seagate software that creates a bootable VM (tinycore) with the SeaTools GUI : Link
without model number, start of usage time, length of usage, type of usage, your story has no usable meaning.

If these drives are ok, why were the server farms getting rid of them.

It's very similar to buying a use car..
Why do ppl buy use cars?

If this is not a deal for you, then move on..

7200 RPM? what year is this ?2001? How about someone come up with a hard Drive without moving parts? Maybe we can call is SSD?

Do you know how expensive a 20 tb ssd would cost right now?

A low end qlc cost about $50.00/tb
These drives cost $10.50/tb and gets real world write speeds of 180mb/s...

If these drives are respectable, why are they refurbished? What could go wrong that they can fix it and resell it?

If you don't see the deal in these 10.50/tb drives for a massive 20tb..

Then, nothing we can say will convenience you otherwise.

There are some ppl willing to pay the full retail price for the 1st iPhone 15, and then there are SDer that buy 💯 20tb hdd at $10.50/tb.
Your money 💰 so it's your choice 😌

OP is trying too hard
All I know , 6 months ago SDers would torch anyone that mentioned Seagate..Suddenly Seagate is the thing to have.
I'm not buying the whole data center, used HDD, that will last you years to come. This drives are used and abused. Corporate America aint going to waste resources. Heck lots of entrprise systems are still on Windows 7 because nobody wants to invest in stuff that works and suddenly data centers are replacing all the good HDD with other good HDD. 4D CHESS SD style. Seagate has bad reputation ..friends dont let friends buy Seagate
OP dont quote me..there's nothing to convince me to buy this garbage $10 per TB or not

You clearly don't know what you are talking about. None of us care that the 1tb Seagate drive you loaded with pron in 2005 failed in 2018.
Seagate is still by far the worst in the industry (enterprise and datacenter class drives). They are still popular due to pricing.

how do you test a 20TB hdd? sounds like it would take forever.

noise isnt a factor for me. my pc is rack mounted in a 4U skeleton open case in the basement. the living room is silent. all i need is hdmi and usb cables routed through a vent.

load up the software and it helps you create a live usb drive. After booting from the drive , then you run their software to do the long smart test.

it does take a while to test... +/- 30hrs

Will this drive be too noisy for a PC desktop? I currently only have a 1TB SSD, but wanted to put plex library on a secondary regular internal hard drive.

A certain amount of computer parts get returned because of user error. For every person who knows how to format and install a hard drive, there are probably 3-4 that don't know.

I'll buy new drives, not ones that are worn out .
The drive I bought looked brand new. The 20TB drive models are too new to be worn out. Enterprise drives are made for 24/7 365 day usage. If you are fearful of buying a refurbished drive and you have the money for a new one, then by all means buy new drives. Nothing wrong with that.

These are helium drives, once the seal fail they'll fail. I wouldn't trust buying a 5 year old refurb drive not to fail soon due to the helium seal.
