It's so much better to just have a hat with a packable down jacket without a hood. It let's you shed the jacket and wear the hat if desired, and the down can go under a shell with a hood. Two hoods is annoying.

Disagree. First, you need to remember to bring along a separate hat. Secondly, you aren't required to wear the down hood if it isnt needed. Thirdly, the down hood can be worn beneath a shell if its really cold outside, but doesnt need to be and really doesn't get in the way.

You still can't wear the hood and put the jacket away. No getting around that a hooded down jacket is less versatile than separate components. Also better not to have a hood you aren't using hanging off your back ready to be snagged. I choose versatility over worrying about having to remember to bring simple things like a head covering or my keys. To each their own.

Absolutely. And so many hoods assume we all have the same sized head and neck geometry. I love hoods for raincoats, but all other outwear can forget it

I'm with you.
I can't stand when hoods aren't adjustable, and not just a drawstring around the face. It either needs some anteroposterior adjustment, or one of those cool systems where snugging up the face also cinches it up around the dome.
Or, you can just grab a cool looking beanie that is more versatile, conforms better to the head, and looks better when you go back to civilization.
Never seem to need jackets this warm anymore. In cases that I do, I'm either wearing a snowboarding jacket (snowboarding) or a heavy Carhartt jacket working (won't tear). I guess it has its place for some people but I'm never out strolling around when it's this cold.
Called up the store. The in-store item number is 1716257. They said it is a new item, but not in stock yet. So possibly will be the stores soon, and will be a little cheaper.
