Amazon is announcing new hardware (likely including Kindle) at an event tomorrow [theverge.com], so might be worth waiting a day to see what they announce. Kindle Scribe is just under a year old, so unclear if they'll put out a new version, but I'm planning to wait and see
Prime day next month might have good deals.
No kindle.

Couldn't use the Kindle2023 code even though I have not purchased anything recently. I'm wondering if there will be an extra discount come Prime day?
When I entered Kindle2023 at check out in my Amazon Business account it said invalid code or something like that but still it worked. I assumed I tried/entered the code before but did not buy it (some other kind of kindle) at that time i.e. did not complete the transaction, although I'm not 100% sure what exactly happened in Amazon Business.

Very likely I entered it in both accounts when I was buying my Kindle Paperwhite (which I'm trading-in now). I was comparing prices in both accounts I guess (Amazon.com and Amazon Biz). Then bought it from the regular Amazon. The receipt includes a 15% discount.

Back to today. My regular Amazon showed this error for Kindle2023:
Quote :
The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase
and no discount.

I want one but I can't really justify trading my Oasis for it, the scribe weighs almost 3 times as much and isn't waterproof plus the trade in for an Oasis is only $50.

Has Amazon updated the software on these?

Early reviews of it said the hardware was entirely fine, but the software had major gaps in functionality -- what amounted to a half-baked beta at best.

I thought about pulling the trigger, because after the trade-in the price is pretty decent for a note-taking device, but I immediately changed my mind after seeing one of the reviews.

Someone had tried to reset it following the instructions from the Amazon support and when they logged back in a year's worth of notebooks were wiped from the cloud as well!

Not taking that chance. The Kindle experience has gone downhill ever since it stopped being Amazon's biggest money maker. While their famous customer service is nothing but a distant memory at this point, so nobody over there seems to even care.

Should be eligible for it.

Here is the Amazon Trade-In Program [amazon.com] page for more details/value
Last big sale on these, I think it was Prime Day, the 20% was available, and it was based on the original, not the discounted, price.

I pretty much need a 10" tablet, minimum to read technical books like Cisco, etc. The ebooks are so much cheaper (but can't resell) than hardbacks these days, at least for books I'll keep for reference.

I also use a reMarkable 2 constantly to do note taking, and sometimes read DRM-free content.

Anyone have opinion after previous experience with reMarkable and/or technical books on Kindle? I also use a Paperwhite I think, but that stays home - doesn't need to go because I generally have the tablet and ebook syncing. (BTW love that my local library does Libby)

i think you're getting it for 20% coupon. hope it's stackable with 10% coupon on the prime visa.

You're right the 20% coupon adds about $50 to the oasis trade in.

dumb question -- can this be used as just a digital note taking, task planner, scheduler?

can you just open a blank document and take notes that can be stored digitally?

open a day planner page and add notes/meetings/etc?
That is what I use it for, but it has its down sides. First, don't use the embedded notebook feature. It is not that great. Go to etsy and buy a specifically made PDF for meetings/day planning/whatever. You then upload the PDF into you library through the amazon interface on a desktop. You then open the pdf in you library section. It is actually very powerful this way. There are more tricks, but that is the main one.

What happens if you don't send in the trade-in device? Do they charge the 20% amount?

What happens if you send in a trade and it gets rejected and returned? Do they take back the 20%? I have one of the original Kindle Fires that had super awesome specs at the time of launch. Haven't picked it up in years cause the screen is separating from the laminate. It still turns on and works.

I got this yesterday and like it for note-taking. My two cents:

Some things that surprised me:
- no way to password protect or make notebooks private. You can turn off "whispersync" that syncs both notebooks and kindle books, but not just one. And if u turn this off, you can't share/email the notebooks! When enabled, everyone in your kindle account can see your notebooks. IMO, they really need to fix this.
- no way to easily collaborate your notebooks with other family members. To-do lists, etc.
- they include many templates, but I wish they had an official site to download additional free templates. Or a site to create your own.

I like it for note taking, not so much for reading - it's big! I also think the are priced a bit high, even at this sale price. I hope they push firmware updates for notebook privacy.

Size isn't everything but in this case it's totally worth it. It's such a better experience especially for things like comic books

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. That brings down the price nicely.

I'll probably still pass on this I think I am not the intended audience for the scribe

The scribe is regular price on my business account yet discounted on my regular account. Plus the code Kindle2023 didn't work for me
