It was only Asus mobos catching fire with the 7800x3d... because Asus wrote a bad BIOS that allowed people to set basically unlimited voltage on the CPU. 100% Asus at fault.
Yeah. Set my whole house on fire and escaped without a trace. Investigators said it was an electrical wire, so I still got my insurance money, but it was clearly arson.
Both of which the CPUs are not the x3d variant. This deal isn't for people who want the x variant CPUs.

Not if you have a Microcenter in driving range.... $399 for the 7700x/32gb/mobo bundle or $599 for 7900x/64gb/mobo option. 7700x is Starfield "regular" while 7900x is "premium" which I assume is just skins and other cosmetic DLC?

I think it's been mostly motherboard issues rather than CPUs that made these catch fire and I think they got them worked out by now

I remember that store, I loved that store (assuming its still the same since I visited on weekend liberty while stationed in California many moons ago)

Way way better than the Best Buy and stuff we have here in Florida.

But yeah not quite as good as Micro Center as far as the deals go.

This is the CPU I would want for a new build right now, but TBH I am going to wait for the 5000 series GPU's as the 4000 series is just not worth it to me, and I prefer to build a whole new system all in one go rather than plan to upgrade bits and pieces over time.

It used to be worth upgrading just a CPU back in the day for encoding workloads, but now the GPU is doing all the heavy lifting and is the focal point for most builds.

Seems like this is a pretty decent deal, given the non-3D version is about $410, processor only, on Amazon.

If you just want the processor, it's cheaper on Amazon.

That is the x version not the x3d version.
