The phrase "intrinsically safe" has a very specific meaning in this context.

The short version is this light is designed not to produce any kind of arc or spark (or enough heat) to cause ignition in areas where there might be flamable gas or dust.

That's how you can decode a bunch of this stuff: Class I, II, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G; Class III; Class 1, Zone 0, Group IIC, Exia; T-Code: T4, MSHA Permissible Flashlight, Approval No. 20-A190001-0. Tested for Intrinsic Safety in Methane-Air mixtures only.

It also has a lifetime warranty.

tl;dr version: This is a light for designed industrial use to keep you from blowing yourself up in flammable environments.

I wouldn't say Streamlight is "niche" any more than Surefire is "niche" - its simply one of the bigger flashlight manufacturers in the world.

I agree! I personally don't want to care about the batteries recharging tool while I'm hiking or camping. It should be built in battery for me.

I'm tempted to buy this because it does use AAA batteries. I have so many of those laying around and it seems hardly anything uses them anymore.

To second this: streamlight is not your average Amazon china b/s this is the Rolex of flashlights. There are better than Rolex, there are worse than rolex, and they all do the same thing, sure... this is a high end product.

Experience: bought a Strion and can't live without it to the point I bought a second for when one dies...

edit: also have an abused Stinger Switchblade old enough to get a driver's license... they only came out 6 years ago but you get the idea 😅
