It almost certainly won't. 100W cables should be assumed to be USB2.0 until stated otherwise, for USB-C data connections you'd probably want something with at least the USB 3.1 spec though ideally thunderbolt 3 and above.
Welcome to USB-C, iPhone 15 users.

Why can't they stop making these crippled cables (not USB 3.x)?
USB 3.x cables are more expensive to make because they have to handle the higher data rate and they use more wires internally. This usually makes them some combination of more expensive, thicker, and less flexible. If you are only looking to use a cable for charging, it makes sense to offer a cheaper alternative that only supports USB 2.0.

Because virtually no charging applications need data.

Because 10gbps+ cables are more expensive to make.

They exist, you just have to be willing to spend more for them. You'd rather these less expensive options didn't exist and you & everyone else had to pay $30 for a USB 3.0+ data cable just to charge? No thanks.

It's a very welcome addition, and a strong reason to finally upgrade for many that have been holding onto older iPhones for 3-5+ years (alongside everything else to be gained). One cable to rule them all, finally (nearly) completing Apple's transition to USB-C. They're on the USB IF (implementers forum), guys... Sure money was a motivating factor, but it also didn't hurt to wait a little longer until USB-C chargers were ubiquitous to finally switch either.. especially as some manufacturers are no longer including wall chargers with their phones anymore.

To others in this thread - trash iPhones all you want, but the typical Android phone manufacturer stops providing software/security updates for their phones after 2 years - that's less than HALF of how long iPhones usually receive updates (~5 years). They're still bringing major updates to their phones from 2018.
Do you mean the iOS updates that slow devices to a snail?

iPhone Pro shoulda have usbc when iPad Pro got release. Now theres lighting to usbc adapters to avoid trashing lighting cables

For everyone claiming that this is a USB 2.0 cable, at the bottom of the product page, in the Product information section, it lists a (presumably maximum) Data Transfer Rate of 5 Gigabits Per Second. If that's accurate, that would make this cable USB 3.1 GEN 1 or USB 3.2 GEN 1x1:
  • USB 2.0 supports up to 480 Mbps
  • USB 3.0 supports up to 4.8 Gbps
  • USB 3.1 GEN1 | USB 3.2 GEN1x1 supports up to 5 Gbps
  • USB 3.1 GEN2 | USB 3.2 GEN1x2 | USB 3.2 GEN 2x1 supports up to 10 Gbps
  • USB 3.2 GEN 2x2 supports up to 20 Gbps
Source for most speeds above:

4th pic show 480mbps transfer speed. if it was 3.1, they would had mentioned it.

Cable length also dramatically impacts throughput too. A 10ft USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable is slower (sometimes by more than 50%) than a 3ft one.

At 1.50 fee per MFi certified cable and a billion devices, that sounds like a logical reason.

They don't care if you buy their cable, 1.50 per certified is money in the bank to own a standard. Just ask Qualcomm, broadcom, or anyone else who owns IP.
If MFi made cables more expensive, why are usb c cables the same price? I've been looking at them now to replace the 40 lightning cables I have around the house and cars. Pro-Consumer!

I bought my Ipad Pro in 2018. Basically a giant iPhone, and even it has USB C. I know why they waited (their proprietary lightning connection and licensing for them being in a lot of revenue), but it's still kind of surprising that it took so long.
