psa - foam does not sound proof

all it does is absorb sound that would normally reflect off a surface and keep
reverberating around the room, so it merely diminishes ambient echo noise.
Sound proofing a room requires mechanically separating the drywall and studs from the sound source.
Soundproofing requires specialized construction, or a vacuum barrier, or a barrier of sufficient mass/density to absorb the sound energy without physically moving enough to act as a speaker. So, heavy walls made of stone, brick, plaster, coating surfaces with panels of Dynamat, painting walls with multiple thick layers of tar... there are many viable options...

I know these are good for reducing echo within a space, however does anyone have experience with a product like this Vs those thick noise reduction wall pads? I'm trying to consider a product that can help lower the noise made by an old washer and dryer in a laundry room and to attach to the back of the doors to it.

I tried a very similar set of foam panels to reduce noise of an air handler in a closet. I was hoping they would at least muffle some of the echo off the walls.

They did absolutely nothing, measured with a decibel meter and they did not reduce the sound at all.

Literally almost anything you do to eliminate flat, hard surfaces will help with reverberation in a room. The last thing you want is an empty box of a room. Placing these and/or your canvases strategically will help, yes. You may need a lot, depending on the size of the room and just how bare it is - but they will help. Odds are with that much reverb you have a hard floor. Consider a rug.
