Same. I love it. Purchased from Atlantic Knife Company in July for $48. I didn't need it but I just couldn't say no to the deal.

This deal is arguably better, with every S35V scale/blade and Damascus variants included at the same price, sold by manufacturer and fulfilled by Amazon. If I didn't have one clipped to my pocket I'd be clicking Buy Now without blinking.

In case anyone is wondering, you buy the Damascus variant for the looks, not for the steel quality. According to a review [amazon.com], the Damascus is a compound of 10Cr15CoMoV and 9Cr18MoV. Likewise, note the carbon fiber scales aren't solid carbon fiber: "Handle Material Twill Carbon Fiber Overlay On Black G10."

Damascus variants of any knife are typically more expensive, so this is (compared to usual price or sale history) the slicker deal. The S35V versions have hit this price point numerous times, but I've never seen the Damascus version go this low.

However...

The S35V version will perform better. It is arguably one of the very best steels for an EDC folding knife. I really love the micarta handle, too. I prefer the feel over the G-10 on my Griptilian.

You could be…

- at a baby shower, helping out with the balloon arch and now you gotta cut a string. You can either leave your post, find a pair of scissor, cut or just reach into your pocket and whip out your blade

- at dinner and your kid is complaining about how the straw is too long. Whip out the blade and shorten that stick

- just received an Amazon package and couldn't wait to take it into the house to open it. Whip out the blade and open it up on the spot

- you and your partner is about to share a dessert. You asked the cashier for a knife and she handed you a fork. Whip out your blade, clean it with napkin, then slice the dessert down the middle (this just happened yesterday actually)

If you're planning on opening boxes only, the folding utility knives are great options. I went with a pocket knife because a wise man once said, never go anywhere without a knife. You gotta be careful if you go to places with metal detectors

OP appears to be missing the link for the Damascus version: https://www.amazon.com/Civivi-Pin...08MW3GBM1/

At this price, it's still a bit expensive, isn't it?

Legitimately what do you guys use pocket knives like this for? For some reason I want to get a decent pocket knife the only thing I could ever possibly think of using it for is opening boxes from Amazon which doesn't seem like the best use for a knife.

Are they only really useful if you like go hunting or camping and shit or if you live in a sketchy area?
It's much easier to answer this by discovering your own use cases. Carry a knife, go about your day, be amazed by the frequency of "oh, my knife can take care of this" moments.
Eventually, you get used to having it and the day you forget it at home is a day full of inconvenience.

My suggestion: Get a folding knife you can carry in your pocket and see how much you end up using it when it's there. Guaranteed, you'll want to continue carrying one.

Some things I use them for:

- Carving
- Opening boxes
- Slicing apples, pears, and peaches
- Piercing plastic with the tip
- Whittling wood
- Removing stuck objects
- Scraping
- Protection
- Emergencies
- Clearing drain
- Loosening screws when no screwdriver available
- Skinning
- Some have pommels for hammering, breaking glass, prying, etc..
- Moving debris

Believe it or not, I have used my EDC to spread PB and jelly before. A lot easier than your finger.

Cut a steak at work today with it, plastic couldn't. Strip a wire, peel an orange, open a box, cut a frayed shoe lace, slice the entire top off a Capri sun for my kid. All that today. Lots of things. Knives become a solution to problems you didn't expect. Like the Capri sun, broke the straw, most people would poke a hole and drain it into a cup? Not I. Slice the whole top off to make a new cup and let the kid drink like a viking. All because I had a solution.

Civivi is a very well made brand, a subsidiary of WE Knives who make some of the finest knives in the world. This knife is far more reliable and precision made than some crap like a Benchmade, at FOUR TIMES THE PRICE!

I do it too. I cut meat, fruit, and pretty much anything else. Have also used them to spread PB.

I've finally not lost one of my knives for long enough that I'm ready to spend some money on a knife. My daily driver is a non-serrated Gerber paraframe knife from academy. My thoughts are $200-$250, but only if I get something for that amount. I'll gladly pay less for a good knife. The important things for me are that the knife is super sharp and can hold that sharpness well because I'm terrible at sharpening knives.
I've read a few comments here that the s35vn variant is great for edge retention, but I'm not sophisticated enough to know if it'll fit my needs. Does anyone have any advice?

Have any owners changed the thumb studs on these? Looking to add some color. Wondering how difficult to remove.

Some of us live or work in places where knives are expected to be on hand all the time. Rural places with lots of outside work, animals to care for, etc. My wife has four or five pocket knives. A few years ago, she got tired of borrowing mine. I carry either a Leatherman Sidekick or a Buck Bantam. Every day. Use them, every day. My Leatherman, now ten years old, is just back from a warranty repair. Broke the saw blade sawing some fodder for my goats. Leatherman fixed it.

I think you'll be extremely happy with s35vn, especially coming from a Gerber. Generally knives with better edge retention with be more difficult to sharpen. S35vn provides a great balance between the two. If it's good enough for a Sebenza, it should fit your needs as an edc option

Thank you. At this price, I think I'm just gonna grab one of these to see how they perform, but I'll leave the question up because I'd appreciate the input from everyone who's willing. I do have a tri-hone sharpener as well, I just can't seem to do a good job using it.

I'm with you. While Damascus is generally more expensive (and possibly a better deal in that sense), I'm generally pretty practical. Possibly for that reason (and possibly just for aesthetics), I actually prefer the S35V model, especially since it comes with micarta (my personal favorite material for actual use). Great grip and durability from the scales, and a better blade material is a win-win in my book.
