The batteries in all these power banks are 3.7V, but USB charging occurs at 5V. This means that every 10000 mAh battery pack has a usable maximum of 7400 mAh (10000 / 5 * 3.7). Then charging inherently incurs efficiency losses – about 20% on average – meaning you can expect the final (or "rated") capacity of pretty much all 10000 mAh battery packs to be around 5920 mAh (7400 * 80%) – though some are more or less efficient than others.

Not entirely sure that pertains to what you were seeing, but hopefully it helps!
I only got 26.55 Wh out of this in my initial test ([email protected] discharge, which, uh, is also less than the rated 20W; it can however do [email protected]).

It's labeled for ≥ 75% efficiency and ≥ 37 Wh, so it's either < 72% efficiency or < 37 Wh, either of which violates the text on the unit itself. I'm charging it back up now to see if we can wheedle out which it is, but this isn't a great first impression and I'm probably returning it.

edit: charging it back up at 5V@2A cost 39.3 Wh. I got 31.6 Wh discharging at [email protected]. So it seems like the efficiency is just bad.

edit 2025-03-01: this thing is just trash now. I don't know why I didn't return it. I can barely get half of these numbers out of it now.

I ordered this last week and arrived this week. Charged power-bank fully via Type-C port with wall outlet. It seems slow charging for the power-bank.

Once power bank fully charged. It charged Samsung S10 as 'fast charging' via Type-C port from less than 10% to above 90% around same time if used Samsung-fast-charger wall-outlet. I was able to do 2-full charges from less than 10% to ~95% and 3rd cycle was till 75% charging then power-bank ran out of juice.

2 and half times charging for Samsung S10. Fast-charging only works through Type-C port only. This port is Input/Output both for this brand. $13 it is a deal for 'fast charging'.

How can one tell how many times this can charge my iPhone X, or my HP Pavilion x360 laptop?

Ignore all the complaints from people who have never even used the device. This does everything it's marketed to do. USB-C in and out. PD quick charging at 18w.
I'm using it now and it's "meh". I suppose for the price it's alright.

For what it's worth, this Anker one is about 30% lighter, which is a factor for backpacking, etc. I see a price of $12.59 after coupon.
its also 4 and a half years old, has only half the capacity out, and can only do 12 watts. Hard pass.

What does it not do that is claimed?

It's marketed to quick charge at up to 18w for PD equipped devices. It does that for me via USB-C. Based on the amount of recharge I've gotten out of it, the capacity seems accurate as well. Could you get one with 2 USB-C ports in place of a silly Micro USB? Sure. Could you spend 4x and save an ounce or 2 on a Nitecore charger? Sure. None of that is a criticism of the power bank though. What is marketed is accurate. Many of the complaints are due to people not paying attention to what they're buying.

The shills are crazy. Baseus stuff constantly posted, immediate frontpage, lots of shill comments... if a company has to do all of that, it tells a lot about the product not being able to stand on its own

I have like 5 or 6 Baseus products from power strips to battery banks.

I have used them travelling overseas multiple times now.

I am actually in Italy right this moment with a Baseus power strip charging my 2 Baseus power banks. One is a 20,000 mah with a built in usb-c cable. The other is just a plain power bank, 20,000 mah, no built-in cable. The built-in usb-c cable is awesome. No need to find both a power bank and a cable, just plug-n-go. Also the cable is very durable. It hasn't broke yet and I'm not gentle with cables at all. I've gone through numerous Anker cables to the point that I don't even bother to pay up for Anker. I break Anker usb-c cables way too often to be paying the premium for them.

Just to prove that I'm not a shill for Baseus or some uninformed keyboard warrior sprouting off at the mouth, here's some real-world feedback:

I do have some small niggles with the power banks. It's almost as if they have slightly buggy software installed on them. One of them refuses to charge my (very low wattage) wireless earbuds (JBL Go Pop). The earbuds only need 1 watt (5 volts, 0.2 amps). One of the Baseus banks appears to be unable to detect such a low charging wattage requirement and doesn't want to charge the earbuds. The other one can be forced to charge it by resetting the power bank (holding down the power button). Not really an issue, and from what I understand this is actually a fairly common issue across all power bank brands--difficulty detecting and charging devices with very low power needs. One of them also doesn't like to play nice with my Spigen GAN fast charger, but the other one will. Both power banks work flawlessly with the Baseus branded power strip, though. The wireless earbuds also charge w/o a hitch using the black (not orange) USB-A port on the Baseus power strip.

The other nice thing about Baseus power banks (at least their larger 20,000 mah ones) is that they support PPS aka programmable power supply, which is a must if you want to "fast" charge a Samsung. Samsung's charge fairly slowly and my Baseus power bank with the built-in orange usb-c cable can hit 9.9 volts at 4.6 amps while charging my S23 Ultra. The other one can go up to 10 volts or so at 4.2 amps. I needed a power bank with PPS and not just any old PPS but higher-amperage PPS and Baseus was essentially the only affordable option with >3 amp PPS.

Even though the charge voltage is higher the phone battery is 3.7V, so although there is another major efficiency loss, maybe you recover some of the initial 3.7-5V conversion loss. Its also probably hit or miss if the battery was 10000mAh to begin with.

20k is too heavy to carry around, I think 10k is the perfect size.
This was my thought but it doesn't charge at 20W PD for my Pixel 7. My older Ravpower charges a lot faster but bigger. I'll give this one to my wife.

I bought this last week. It arrived in 2 days and seems to be nicely made and packaged and all the ports work. It charges in "Turbopower" mode (max possible 15W) via USB A to USB C and USB C to USB C on my Motorola phone. Only about ½ of my other chargers and batteries can do that.
I just went ahead and ordered another one. The 35% coupon worked again.
I will stop buying them now.
I do NOT need all of the Baseuses to belong to me.

I have one of these and a 'PD trigger cable'. The battery will output 5v, 9v, and 12v. My use case is running QRP ham radios @ 12V. I did a load test on the battery @ 12V using a 7.5 watt load. The battery put out about 2.6Ah @ 12V (~31Wh) before it shut down. Not bad. Here is what I observed when charging it: USB-C to USB-C cable 18 watts. USB-A to USB-C cable 13 watts. USB-A to micro-USB 5 watts.

RFI not too bad if you keep it away from your antenna.

No idea how long the battery will hold up, but for the price I think it is decent.
