FYI. If you have a credit card with an extended warranty, make sure you check the terms and conditions as mine refused to cover refurbished AirPods that I purchased from VIP outlet via Walmart.com. Even though they excluded used items and did not mention refurbished as an exclusion they are still refusing to pay the claim. My other extended warranties from my other credit cards all exclude refurbished items.

Check all of them. There are different warranties from Visa and MasterCard and American Express. Different bank and different branded MasterCard and Visa Credit cards may also have different terms of warranty than others. You can request the info from your credit card company if you can't find it online or in the app.

Why is this deal receiving such a terrible Deal Score? Is this primarily driven by the 2nd Gen diminishing the value of the 1st Gen?

Its a used item, not refurbished. And it's through third party. Battery life might be horrid and that wont be covered by your allstate insurance that was added to the purchase price since its wear and tear.
