An unfortunate example of when bad opinions become facts simply because they're posted on the Internet

This isn't the place to teach English, unmix metaphors, etc. - although I do love the "cringe" association with obesity after mentioning eating an illegal amount of ice cream.

But to the thread topic and Kauai: it has its share of consumerism, as well as abundant nature - as do Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. One can find it enjoyable to shop at Costco, Safeway or Tommy Bahama, grab food or drinks at Starbucks or Duke's, *and* appreciate the natural wonders of the Napali Coast, Waimea Canyon and elsewhere. These are not mutually exclusive.

More laid back and chilled. I want to say a lot of stuff closed early if I remember correctly. Friends and I rented a house a few years ago. Loved it. Queens Bath was fun. Also white pineapple was delicious.

I was just there this summer. They do have hotels/resorts. They also have Airbnbs, but they are restricted to certain areas. Kauai is more country. There is a long trail along the coast. There are hikes and stuff like that. A lot of the beaches though have larger waves.

Bad take my friend.. Many Hawaiians depend heavily if not exclusively on tourism.

I guess that depends on your definition of "big."

If you get turned on by The Hard Rock Cafe, Red Lobster, and The Cheesecake Factory, you won't like Kauai. It's not the cultural appropriated consumerism bukakke that Waikiki is.

If you love nature, scenery in movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lost, Jurassic Park, and The Descendants, uncrowded beaches, and the absolute best ice cream I've ever had in my life (I eat an illegal amount of it) - then get your butt to Hawaii on this deal.

What culture has The Cheesecake Factory "appropriated?"

Don't look now, but the Costco in Lihue apparently sells poke, macadamia nuts and surfboards. The horror. Bring a towel to wipe up all that appropriism.
