I used to think like you but I bought 2 monitors for $50 each.
One for myself, and got one for my nephew. Both are having issues.
They appeared to be fine at first, but the one I bought randomly turn off unexpectedly every few days. No way to turn it on back on until I rebooted (by unplugged) the computer. I asked the seller, he denied there was an issue. He told me to update to the latest driver, or update to Windows. After I did that no luck. Then he told me to try to use Displayport instead of HDMI, so I went out to buy an Displayport cable but it still didn't work.
My nephew also has issues with his. This was the message my nephew wrote to the seller (a different seller):
"I recently switched the monitor from 60 Hz to 144 Hz while using it. It's been working great, but when I Alt+Tab out, it gives a black screen for 2-3 seconds. For some apps I've been able to bypass it by switching from fullscreen to windowed, but for others the black screens still persist. I've tried a Google search on the issue and it's either the monitor isn't compatible with 144 Hz (which it should have full compatibility with), or it's constantly switching from 144 Hz back to 60 Hz and vise versa. I was wondering if you had this problem before and have any solutions for it. Please let me know - thanks."
But of course the seller never responded.
We spent hours and hours to do research about the issues, it has been over a month.
My monitor still unexpectedly or randomly shutdown every 2-3 days.
You could say I am the unlucky one, but 2 out of 2 with problems? This is too much to take.
So no more Craigslist or FB marketplace for me.
There is no way for us to file dispute like eBay or when you paid with credit card.
If you're lucky, you'll get a good one from an honest seller. But some people sell cheap cuz they knew there's an issue you wouldn't be able to discover until you take it home, and once you paid for it, there's no way to get your money back.

You have 5 days to pick it up, if not, they will cancel your order and refund you.
Thanks. Debating if I want this still. Think I have to decide by Saturday at the latest and if I dont pick it up guess Ill have to bring back the free french coffee maker they shipped =)
Looks like we had some mod cleanup. Please keep thread on topic. No one cares about 2nd hand markets when discussing a retail deal

Buy these for clients all the time. If you are going dual monitor, these have big plastic bezels not edge to edge. You need to get the Dell Ultrasharps for that.

Yeah, picked one up today. Have not opened it yet. Still on the fence and if I am going to return it might as well keep it sealed so they can sell as new (sometimes they open anyhow) I have an HP 27ea or something like that and its bezelless except for the bottom. Won't match at all but then I doubt anything will except the same and I wouldnt buy another - the HP came as part of a desktop bundle
Anyway, poor little gecko was on the box after the OM employee hands it to me. I didnt want to take it outside because there are a lot of openings in the box and if he went inside Id have to bring him home. The OM employee tried to get it with a paper towel and poor thing limped away inside the store.

Yeah luck of the draw for sure. New gets you more coverage. I have only had one used monitor go sorta bad a long long time ago. But every monitor since has been rock solid. Where I am they are cheap.
Too many of them at goodwill right now.

Either way, $90 is a good price for descriptions that include the words "Dell" and "27 inch".

You are certainly free to pay new price for old tech.
I would prefer to pay very cheap used price for old tech or cheap price for newish tech.
