Is the new model really worth nearly double the price as last year's model? The A80K was on sale at Costco this week for $999 with a 3yr extended warranty.

Consensus is no, but that's only if you could get an A80K for $999 anymore. Unlikely to drop to that during Black Friday since that was a local clearance price.

Any thoughts on this vs LG C3? Rtings considers the C3 to be better, but I've seen a lot of forum threads consider the Sony A80L to be better.
I've noticed that Rtings ratings are not a good way to know if something if better, like the X95J vs X95K with the latter scoring lower but being the better TV even according to Rtings in the versus. The Sony will look better than the LG because of Sonys picture processing. No contest.

The C3 is a little brighter and better for gaming and the A80L may be marginally better at upscaling and accurate (uncalibrated) HT duties. Also has ATSC 3.0 if you may use that at some point whereas the C3 does not. You'd have to weigh the individual differences and see what matters more to you in your use case though... and where you can get the better deal as they are very close. I'd say a gamer should get the LG (or QD OLED) and movie buffs or people watching lower quality content should consider a Sony.
Also consider the OS and what you prefer there.

I ordered the Sony. I game on my PS5, but it's not nearly as much as I watch movies / TV. I generally prefer google tv vs Webos, although I don't really think it's a big deal since you get a streaming stick anyway.

10% off doesn't seem like a good deal. Thoughts?

If I can get my hands on the older model for $1000, I'd go that route.
If you have money to burn for incremental improvements, go for it.
