On any given day/sale the exact tool I want is rarely on special or an amazing price. But for those who keep a wishlist of them and track the prices you can get some amazing deals at DTO.
It's common knowledge now that factory blemished at DTO is brand new not blemished and only labeled as such to get around TTI's exclusive Home Depot contract.
Picked up a bunch of lights I need last week for under $22 each. They're $89 each at Depot and best sale at HD ever has been $45 on them. Over the last few years I've gotten many similar wishlist items.
Takes a bit of time and patience, but can definitely get far better deals on DTO when things line up. And unfortunately in recent times you usually need to be ordering a number of items to not have the shipping fee affect the deal as much.
It's not a scam and is--for many things, but not everything--a significant savings. For example, with this deal, the bug zapper is $50+ shipping at DTO (factory blemished, which as others explained is same as new) versus $132 at Home Depot.

the more I've looked at direct tools, the more I realize how much a scam it is. I can get a factory blemished ryobi framing nail gun for 389 with battery which is a "big saving" and pay 15$ shipping or I can buy a non factory blemished one brand new with battery from home depot with free shipping for 389. It holds for most of their items.
Factory Blemished is New. There is no difference.
DTO has to sell as "Blemished" due to their contract with Home Depot.

The framing gun is almost never on sale. It's kinda a joke at this point. If you watch the final prices some of their sales are better than others, have to essentially decide how long you want to wait, and if you want to chance it on a return vs blemished.

Factory reconditioned is a scam. Factory blemished is a deal when the sale is significant enough. Not everything goes on sale.

That nail gun is a "new arrival" and not currently on sale at Direct Tools. When it is, it will be at a much better price than Home Depot's. While it is preferable to buy from Home Depot rather than a discount outlet, there is literally no difference between new and factory blemished.
Shop their sales and you'll see what all the hype is about. For example, the 40v charger shown above that is $30 plus shipping from Direct Tools will cost you $169 at Home Depot.

Items are sometimes half of the retail (home depot) price. So it's not always a scam.

Item dependent. There are some Ryobi tools that never go on sale there. Not worth buying.
Other items there is a significant price savings.
Blemished is as good as new from the items I bought.
Ive bought air inflators, sprayers, electric mower, 40v batteries for way less than full retail at HD.
I've stocked my toolboxes with Ryobi and Ridgid by keeping an eye on prices and buying during sales. If you're in a hurry, it's not the best, but if you're patient, you can find some amazing deals.

The 40V 14" air cannon fan looks good at $110, but personally i am going to wait till end of the year/January when DTO typically has their lowest prices. Not a guarantee but that has been the case for the past few years

Even if I bought 1 factory blemished bug zapper, it's still cheaper than straight from Home Depot. Buy multiple items and the savings outweigh the shipping by a lot.

It depends, I bought a factory reconditioned whisper bucket top mister kit last week, $52 shipped, the blemished would have been like $75, 3 year warranty isn't worth a 50% premium. The same kit is $99 at Home Depot so I saved 50%, I'll take the gamble that it's either going to die in the 90 day return window or will last years.

I dont see the scam. I bought a rigid table saw "blemished" for 167 including shipping earlier this summer and used it multiple times with no issues and have no idea where the blemish is. The same one is 299 at home depot. I think you can find some decent deals.

Magnifying clamp light for $17. That's the cheapest I've ever seen it. That light is $50 over at HD.
