This knife has a reverse scalloped edge which is designed to help you cut through things like bread, fruits, meats, etc. It's a sawing type motion with a very sharp edge. The "Ikon" means it has an African black wood handle with smoother curves versus the classic has a synthetic handle. It's considered more premium and I prefer the grip myself. This is definitely a good deal.

Edit: Not a wood handle because this is the "classic Ikon" as someone else mentioned and is a hybrid between the two.

This is the Classic IKON so it uses the same synthetic material for the handle as the Classic line. This is a hybrid of the IKON shape with the Classic's material. I just want to make sure no one is buying this expecting the wood handle.

High quality but also high priced bread/tomato/roast (niche) knife. I have the Ikon 8" chef knife which is double the price but I would say more versatile

Bread, sandwiches, tomatoes if you don't maintain your knives... They use the hell out of these at sub shops. Do yourself a favor and don't spend good money on serrated knives. Pick one up a cheap offset knife from tramontina or some other industrial brand.

I love Wustof knives but don't really need this one. I recommend the brand to anyone considering.

Don't buy expensive serrated knives. You can't sharpen them so after a while it's no better than a $2 Walmart knife. I can buy 35 cheap serrated knives for $70.

I'm not a fan of serrated knives, but it can be used in almost any situation a flat blade can be used. They're good for slicing bread and carving meat. Not so good for chopping or slicing vegetables. Not so fun to sharpen either.

If you're not used to having a high-end knife in your kitchen though, I guarantee this would become your go-to for everything. I was a chef for 10 years and we were stocked with Wusthof and Zwilling knives (I actually took a Zwilling santoku and chef knife with me when I left...been using them for 24 years now!). They're forged, keep an edge, and last forever as long as you hand wash them after every use.

At this price if you need a good knife I'd get this. If you have a few knives I'd wait until you see a good price on a 8"-10" santoku knife...it's probably the most versatile style.

This is NOT true. You can hone a serrated knife just like any other knife to keep a straight edge on it. The problem is honing a serrated blade by hand is it takes a lot longer as you have to do it in sections with a gentle touch. If it gets very dull they have mechanical sharpeners made for serrated blades.

Knives aren't disposable...they're not razor blades. They require maintenance. The quality of the steel used, the method of construction, and your cutting technique all determine how long it will stay sharp.

I thought the IKON was only for wood handles.

It allows you to have a different angle for you wrist when cutting. Some bread knives have the same offset angle on the handle. It keeps your hand higher off the cutting board which can be more comfortablee It can also keep your knuckles from hitting the cutting board if you are in a delli banging out a hundred plus sandwiches during your shift. The angle also helps you apply more force when cutting.
