Various Retailers have Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami (eBook) on sale for $1.99.

Thanks to Deal Editor powerfuldoppler for finding this deal.

Available from:About this book:
  • Across two parallel narratives, Murakami draws readers into a mind-bending universe in which Lauren Bacall, Bob Dylan, a split-brained data processor, a deranged scientist, his shockingly undemure granddaughter, and various thugs, librarians, and subterranean monsters collide to dazzling effect. What emerges is a novel that is at once hilariously funny and a deeply serious meditation on the nature and uses of the mind.

Possibly my favorite Murakami book, I've read it several times and still think about it sometimes. Somewhat melancholy but also a thriller, mystery, and sci fi story. Quintessential for the author.

We named our dog Haruki, but she prefers to go by just Ruki.

The misogyny is uncomfortable, moreso than in most of his books, but if you can get past that this is an incredible story. You just have to ignore the author's occasional ranting about women and fat people.

When is the new book being translated into English? I just hope the audiobook narrator isn't that Kotaro fellow.

Have read this book did not pick up anything about fat people. Where do you find fatphobia in this book?

The narrator's comments about the grand daughter of the scientist are rather uncomfortable. He makes similar comments about the librarian, but at least she's not underage.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great story, but that stuff was just weird and felt completely out of place
