Is this one quiet?

I realize when it spins up it will be louder of course. But in automatic mode, is it typically silent?

I tried that Bissel one from the QVC deal a few days ago and had to send it back. It had an obvious humming noise to it that was just too much.

Conversely, I have one of the smaller Coway filter systems and it's absolutely silent until it detects something.

It's quiet. I keep mine on #3 of 4 speeds full time because it works better that way and you can hardly hear it. I have a homedics filter from costco that is much louder on the same 3rd speed which would be fine if it was a better white noise but it's kind of irritating so I keep that one on the 2nd speed.

I bought two of these the last time they went on sale and I really like mine. Super quiet in the lower speeds but it does get quite loud on High. I keep mine on auto and hardly notice they are there.

It is quiet until after 1 year or so, it started to get louder.

I've also experienced the loud noise after about a year. I bought 2 at one time, and 1 of them developed it after a year (with regular cleaning and filter changes). The other one developed it a few months later. I had bought another one probably 6 months after those 2, and it lasted about 18 months until I had to move and gave it away.

I did buy one about a year ago (they include the filters so even if it breaks it was worth it) and it's doing okay so far, knock on wood.

BEWARE: These are junk. I have a C545 and C535 bought at different times, both of the the fans start making a lot of rattling noise after about a year whether there's a filter in there or not.
Would the Costco return policy help with this?

I've have 4 of these across my house, purchase almost 3 years ago, and all 4 are still as quiet today as when I first purchased them. I have purchased replacement filters for much less $$$ from Amazon, I notice no difference.

If you're open to refurbished, looks like you can get this for $69.99 direct from Winix:

Mine's about 2.5 years old now (similar Winix model: 5300-2, not the model here), no change at all to what little noise it does make. It's very quiet on the lowest settings.

It does get louder on the highest 2 settings, but it also moves a pretty ridiculous amount of air at those speeds for a HEPA filter. It's puts out strong enough airflow on high that it could double as a fan if you pointed the output at you.

I have 3 so far. 2 of them, purchased from Costco, have worked perfectly for years without any issues. One that I bought "refurbished" started making noise, so I took it apart and cleaned it up. Having said that, I'd only buy it from Costco going forward, so I can return and replace if something goes wrong.
