I bought one these about 5 years ago. And then replaced it with Midea Inverter. The Midea is Night and Day better in cooling performance even though the listed BTU is similar.

Also the Inverter is so much quieter. I don't know where they get off calling the Whynter 'Whisper Silent'. It's far from it.

Humidity is not an issue here in Nor Cal, so I can't comment on that.

Can't speak to the refurbished part, but I bought this exact model a few years ago. Ran it continuously for about 2 years before I moved. Used it for a day since. Always worked fine. Can't compare it to other portable ACs (window based and mini splits are FAR superior if that is an option), but it was able to keep my room in Florida cool.
