Everything about the tolls is a scam. They were originally supposed to end once the bridges were paid for, but the folks in charge decided they didn't want to stop the money flow so now they use the toll system as a jobs initiative (employing lots of worthless administrators and CSRs) and after the government takes its cut for "administering the program" what's left is given to the failing transit agencies so they can pay janitors $200k to sleep on the job.

I would not call this a deal because this is the policy which has been executed in the past 3 years

The discount is only applicable when HOA times are enforced. That means weekends and off peak times are not valid.

And I really hated fasttack. 680 always has issue with scanning my toll tag and will charge me. 880 has no issue. If you have fast track, I recommend check the balance regularly. If the charges are based on license plate number, that means you could be charged even though if you multiple occupants.

Cool for CAV owners but heavier EVs actually contribute more to road wear and tear. While those of us who maintain our cars for the long run get no benefits. Can't win nowadays.

Cars are one case where "trickle down" economics makes sense, because the cars that rich people buy today stay on the road for much, much longer than the couple of years that the original owners drive them for.

As someone who has always bought used cars, and whose last couple used cars have been very affordable electric ones, I say go for it rich people! Buy some EVs, then trade them-in. Heck, get a few! I'll gladly throw in my literal two cents or whatever it is to help keep that going.

What if you already have both a Fastrak Flex toll tag and a CAV sticker--do you still need to apply to get the 50% discount?

Edit/update--looks like you need the Fastrak CAV toll tag (which is slightly different from the Flex toll tag as far as its main usage goes), a CAV sticker, and probably filling out the application referred to at the top of this thread to get the 50% discount...and even then this deal is meant for only if you are a solo occupant in a CAV driving in Bay Area Express Lanes.

Lol. Clean air? So ALL CAVs are recharged with solar? Doubtful.

I do appreciate CAVs. I don't appreciate newspeak. Typical Cali, patting themselves on the back with one hand, while shooting themselves in the foot with the other.

Fastrak website sucks. It shouldn't take more than 30s to figure out what I need and how to order it 😉. I mostly just need something for carpooling and am on EV. Also how much they cost.

Obviously I haven't signed up/created a profile online yet.

It is ridiculous that they require the original decals certificate since the decals when applied asks for license numbers as well. They should have this in the database.

Electric cars and Bay Area in a sentence together and not a single political comment? People are either in a good mood today or mods have had their coffee.

I'm so thankful I just work from home most of the time. If I do go to the office, I just take VTA light rail and my employer gives $150 a month through commuterbenefits.com.
Cisco? Man I miss how bay area used to be a decade ago.

Thanks jomeyq .. interesting points .. tho for EVs I think the replacement battery costs will kill what is largely the trickle down value of the vehicle compared to used ICE right now ..

California with their new rules attempting to kill ICE vehicles asap will create trouble in the workers paradise .. you can be 100% certain there will be some pain seeing that they're not upgrading the electrical grid ..

So it only works if you are traveling during rush hours in the carpool lane? 5-10am 3-7pm M-F. if you are taking the bay bridge during the weekend then the carpool lane is a bus only lane if I remember correctly and you csn use it.
