I can't believe they still only give you 8gb of storage. And it's basically gone after 4 app installs 🤦 ♂️

I have the original 4k. Debating if this is worth it for $25.

Probably won't really notice a difference but maybe could sell the old one locally for $15-$20.

Looks like I'd go from:
- wi-fi 5ac to 6e
- 8gb storage to 16gb (not really using)
- add AV1 decode
- 41% more performance (single/multi-core)
- 64% more gpu performance (don't care at all)
- some extra dolby support (not using)

Maybe worth it eh... checking to see what these 4k max models sold for at black friday last year. I think was also $20-$25 range.

Didn't get offer, but the reviews say that the current OS on the Max 2nd generation grays out/blanks the sideloaded icons making them useless. Suppose an update will eventually fix, but be aware.

nice breakdown, the regular 4K sticks go for that on sale so I'd say it's a deal with the extra storage and performance. $25 will barely get you a bag of groceries

having said that, I have the 2nd gen fire cube and the 1st gen 4K Max (8GB) that I'm content with. YMMV in this case, I have a Sony OLED that really shines with the right feed like Dolby Vision

The 4K Max (2nd Gen) is the only one with 16GB storage & it is $60, not $50

2GB memory
25% speed increase from turtle speed doesn't mean much. I bought it for watching Twitch streamers but man it feels like a 10 year old device.

I plugged mine back up last night. No offers then, but I thought it might need to sync with the servers, need an update, etc. This morning I rebooted for the update. Still no ad right now.

It took a couple days for my old Rokus to show the $15(?) 4k express plus ads last year. I'll leave the firestick in for a while.

Isn't the 4k max 2nd gen the one on sale now for $25 after the coupon though or is it only the non-max model?

EDIT: ugh guess not. Seems like the MAX is $45. Definitely not worth it to me.

I'm seeing the offer on Amazon's website, and i also have an offer for $15 off the 4k max. There's 2 new sticks, the new Fire Stick 4k which is 8gb, and the new 4k Max which is 16gb. Seems like people are getting these mixed up.
If you're new to fire sticks, you'll want the new 4k Max for the 16gb of storage. Amazon has a lot of bloatware on their devices, combine that with constant updates and your storage space gets eaten up quickly to where you can only have like 5 apps installed. And not all apps are moveable, all the big streaming apps have to stay on main storage.

Can anyone comment on whether they noticed a difference after upgrading? I have the old model and honestly it runs great. I've never noticed lag or buffering outside of one specific app (moonlight).
I'm hopeful about the new model, and would love to hear user experience since I was annoyed how the objectively "better" Fire Stick 4k (1st gen) has had more problems with some high bit rate content than my pendant model Fire Stick 4k. I traded out all my older (non-4k) Fire Stick models but kept my pendant (in part because I wasn't willing to shell out for a Max model).

Good luck!
Jon

Does this have connectivity issue like 1st GEN 4k max?
I have no connection issues with my 1st gen 4k max. Maybe you got a bad one or have network issues.

older 4k max is now the new 4k stick, they do have a new outer design.
Nope. 4K Max is their highest tier and separated from regular 4K stick.

Y'all are all forgetting about the goat

onn. Google TV 4K Streaming Box (New, 2023), 4K UHD resolution

$20

Swapped to this awhile back for my living room. Absolutely love it. Android just like fire stick without all the pushed Amazon nonsense.

I think they have a stick version too

I dislike Roku OS and the fact they require your CC on file 24/7. I much prefer the base android experience
