Purchased this last week for $150.00 + 20% trade in discount (10 year old Kindle) + $5.00 credit and followed the FireTookKit instructions on Youtube and was able to remove the lockscreen ads, crappy Amazon UI and bloatware.

Surprising snappy for basic functions, web browsing, Youtube, Netflix.
Good cheap tablet I don't really care about to toss around.

There is some incomplete information here about Fire Toolbox and this device.

All that Fire Toolbox will do is install Play Store and related services. It cant make them work.

In Amazon's latest OS, they gimped these services, probably to redirect and force Amazon services instead, or some other reason. Apps that rely on the Google services crash.

The last tabs that worked with the Toolbox Google install well were the HD 10s from a couple of years ago, which used the prior Fire OS.

That is that. You get what you get and dont be upset.

That's strange, they have been working fine on my Max 11 for week on mine. They may quit tomorrow but as of now Google installed from Fire Toolbox and several aps installed from Google work great.

Yeah, same for me. Most apps and games have been working fine. Only one game failed to install (mtg arena) from playstore, but I think that happened with the fire 10 as well, then amazon updated or something and they worked a few months after release. I have been very impressed with this tablet, i have galaxy s9 and s9 ultra. Obviously it does not have that kind of performance, but for 95% of things you really can't tell. It is snappy and $150 seems like a deal to me. I like having a kitchen table tablet that I dont really care if it breaks.

This is a great tablet for media consumption. Use it more than my iPad pro for movies and shows because of the widescreen aspect ratio. Still prefer ipad for reading though

The "Max" must stand for "Maximum disappointment". These are poor performers for the money with genuinely underwhelming SoC's, only 4GB RAM, and base 64GB internal storage -AND you have to cope with lock-screen ads? Yeah I'm not seeing much value here.

There are tablets that sit in the same price-range that come with double the RAM, double the internal storage, no lock-screen ads, actually normal Android OS, and similar strength SoC's. If you're going to buy something that comes with an SoC that performs like a couple year old midrange chip, at least get something with respectable storage and RAM.

One example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEKmZQadKl0
Yeah dont link a stupod youtube, provide a link to buy these products.

Oh wait you cant cus there arent any

For 150 this the best youre gonna do and good value straight up as well. You can probably find maybe some lenovo or samsung tabs occasionally sale for 229 that are better but not 150

Also a common gotcha on the cheap Chinese or Wal Mart Onn tablets in this price range are lack of widevine level 1 cert. That costs money so they cut corners and dont include it. that means you're limited to 480P and no HD support in streaming apps like netflix. Maybe it's just a mental thing but thats a dealbreaker for me. although i think youtube will stream in hd. otoh the big negative on this is obviously fire os, but it is what it is. this good of hardware with stock android for 150 would be too good to be true. actually that one does per the video though.

also lol the cpu on the tab you linked (374 Geekbench 5 single core) is about half as powerful as this (close to 700 in the same key metric). get outta here dudes, i wonder if trolls even think anybody will look at their links. the 8gb ram is nice but the build quality/screen look sus and the cpu will cancel it out.

They will probably eventually start to crash and force close especially if you are on the lower FW 8.3.1.5 which is the last version that allows you to disable Amazon services like fire launcher
I think people have been saying updating stopped the crashing and force closing but then if you update you can't block updates ,disable fire launcher and debloat
I am staying put
Hopefully they will figure out a way to get it to work consistently
Also e was under the impression it was Google doing this not Amazon
Google has a whitelist of official devices that are allowed to use play services and Amazon fire tablets are not on the whitelist

How did this turn into a rant about Amazon GC policy change thread? There're other forums for off topic discussion.
I actually hate most SD comments for that reason. People say things for no reason. "Pass" conveys no information.

Its like getting to witness "those who know, dont speak. Thise who speak, don't know."

I think the sideload google services may be getting out of date. I noticed a problem getting Chrome to sync. By googling found that there's a permission problem. Reinstall Chrome and before launching, check app permissions in Settings. Allow the ones that are denied then start the app. You may want to check this on other apps.

Is 4GB RAM good enough for just browsing and media consumption - YouTube, Netflix, prime video etc?

When they did not offer instant credit before last prime day, tablet was on a bigger discount. Now they offered instant credit, tablet is on regular discount.

I got approx 10" fire tablet, and it is GARBAGE. Soooo painfully slow, and now I get a charging error where it says there is water in my device, when in fact it's as dry as the desert itself! right now the dumb thing is just a paperweight. oh yeah amazon so smart to let people know if they've dropped their tablet into the toilet. usually I don't have to be told some things. and that stupid useless feature has ruined any future use of the tablet, ready for the landfill now

Yes it is. The max is a great tablet for media consumption, particularly if you keep it to the direct Amazon ecosystem of books/movies/prime video/audio. If you want a great variety of other apps, yeah an iPad costs more and is better. But this is a great experience for use with Amazon stuff.

Not speaking to the quality of the device itself, but it looks like today they've made it so that if you have an Amazon credit card you now get 10% cash back on select Amazon tablets (rather than the usual 5%).
